How to Handle Gameday Trolls

I'm not even going to take much time typing this announcement, but someone has to say it, so here's your resolution:

DO NOT RESPOND TO THEM.

That means don't quote them, don't say anything about them to anyone else in a post, don't do anything.

I find it funny that we have a large amount of members that continually bash the staff (or MODS, as they put it) for not banning all trolls, but if you actually knew what a troll does, and how they do it, you'd understand that they are tough to keep off the board. They use dynamic IP's (or proxies) to re-register. Even if we monitored all registrations and had an admin approve each one, it's almost impossible to tell who's actually coming here to post, and who's coming here to troll.

I got a PM from someone, asking me to just delete their posts as they are made. Is that a joke? How about we give you mod privileges, and you miss games deleting posts? In fact, you can do it for the rest of the season...going through pages that actually increase by one every time you delete. Thing is, you have to do it quick enough, because if members quote that post, you'll have to delete theirs as well. You'll be at your computer, eyes on the monitor, for the entire game.

A troll gets excited when you respond to his comments. If they are hurting your feelings that bad, then maybe posting on a message board is not the thing for you. PurpleSmoke is banned as of right now, but that doesn't mean he won't be back as someone else, with a different IP. Ban, re-register...ban, re-register...and all we'll hear are more complaints.

Ignore trolls. Stop going against the guidelines and cussing them out. Anyone of any age can see what you say, so stop talking about what you want to do to that troll's mother, stop throwing obscene comments at their face, and just breathe a little and practice a bit of self-control. Whatever the trolls say will not change the outcome of the game, and they'll eventually see that they are banned sooner or later, so just pretend like they are invisible to this message board.

if i may be honest, i find the exchanges between trolls and members to be quite funny. But i understand why it may not be funny. i.e little kids around.

exactly what I tried telling people the other night. you get mad at them and it's just what they want. ignore them and they dissapear. or they get banned. man9

Why not implement a personal block list? As soon as you see a troll you can add him to your block list on a single click, and never see his posts again.

I always try to watch the game and only post in the thread if it's commercials or if I get mad and need to express my anger.

I love the Gameday threads. It;s my favorite section of the board. I can;t watch every game becuase I live in Australia. So every game day i have the radio on (online), the yahoo sports live scoreboard and the gameday thread open. I comment on almost every play. I;d say at least a quarter of my posts have come in gameday threads. Easily. I hope there are no trolls this year.

TROLLS LOG OFF ALREADY!

12 games down, 4 more to go. This is going to be one for the records and a highlight of what is to come the next few years. If you think Lakers and Celtics wont be here again in the next few years your crazy! This is not the old school rivalry but by the time these next few seasons pass.....
