With all due respect to the red, white, and blue, Kevin Garnett is focused on wearing Celtic green.
USA Basketball president Jim Tooley confirmed that Garnett was approached about joining its 2008 Beijing Olympic squad within the last week. The first-year Celtics forward won a gold medal while playing for the United States during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Tooley, however, said the 10-time All-Star respectfully declined the invitation.
"There is no discussion about that," Garnett said. "I don't want to discuss that. They know that."
Said Tooley: "We understand his decision and respect it. He's with a good team and he's focused on that."
Garnett and Celtics teammate Ray Allen were both on that 2000 USA team, the last one to win an Olympic gold medal. The US's roster currently includes such big men as Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, and Chris Bosh, but could have definitely used Garnett. In fact, regular Nuggets small forward Carmelo Anthony started at power forward for the US in this summer's FIBA Americas tournament. While Allen and Celtics teammate Paul Pierce have USA Basketball experience, neither is expected to play in the Olympics next year.
"They have a team and the team is already established, which is good. I've had my time in it," said Garnett, who was second in scoring for Team USA during the 2000 Games, averaging 10.8 points per game. |

I wish I could watch Kobe play with Kev. I wish the USA Dream Team would be:
Kobe
LeBron
Iverson
Wade
Garnett
Kidd
Shaq
Duncan
T-Mac
Vince
Ben Wallace
Melo
I wish all these guys were on the USA team. That team would dominate the world. |

He already has a medal. USA has enough good players as is. It's not like they really need KG. _________________

I'd love for Garnett to be on the team, but he's done it already, he's working on his ring right now. I don't agree with a lot of your team though
Iverson - no thanks, been there done that
Wade - if we must, having Kobe kinda makes him pointless
Shaq - too old and slow to keep up with international style of US ball
T-Mac - can only have so many small forwards, LeBron and Prince for his D
Vince - done it, too fragile now
Ben Wallace - mr 4 and 4 in the NBA, I'll stick with Dwight and Amare _________________ Weezy's Weemens

I agree with all of your choices except Shaq. Dude sucks now a day. Get Dwight in there. Besides, we're gonna dominate the world anyway in the Olympics. _________________

As great as he is, we don't need him. We have a great team already and I love the chemistry we've shown out there. If he doesn't want to represent his country, so be it. _________________

KG would be a great addition to the team, but I can understand him declining and offer. He's already won one on the 2000 team. _________________

KG would have been nice. But he's missed the past 2 years with Team USA so I don't look for him to join ever. The guy already has gold too. Plus, he's like what...33? It's time for the young guys to shine. Bosh will do a good enough job to fill the void (though I do worry about USA's defense). _________________

| Honestly I don't even want this dood on team USA. Save the screaming and chest pounds for next year. I can't stand to root for a Celtic right now. |

I think KG would make an excellent spokesperson for Massengill feminine hygiene products. _________________ Basketball isn't part of life, it is life.
