Raymond Felton?

Is Raymond Felton a good improvement for the team?

I read this in "Lakers 2008 Draft" Forum, in the post "Chad Ford´s Draft Grades":

Round 1: D.J. Augustin (9), Alexis Ajinca (20)

Round 2: Kyle Weaver (38)

Analysis: I'm a D.J. Augustin admirer, and I think he'll be an improvement over Raymond Felton eventually. The Bobcats were shopping Felton before the draft and I think they'll keep doing it now.

Ajinca is intriguing on paper and in workouts, but I'm highly skeptical he can turn 5 points per game in the French league into a solid NBA career. I think they wasted some cash buying the pick.

Weaver is a Larry Brown-type defensive specialist who can play two positions. He's a nice get at No. 38.

He wasn't a very good shooter from range, so not sure. Really would depend on his ability to defend, which I don't really recall if he was any good. At 6'1" he isn't any bigger than Farmar so I don't know if he brings much to the table that the Lakers don't have. Unless he is a lock down defender which I don't think he is.

I like Raymond Felton. He always plays the Lakers tough. The problem with Fisher is that he does nothing to create for the lakers. This is not to say that he doesnt have assets, he does. But on the court, he is a spot up shooter.

We really need another play maker other than Kobe. Felton would be good.

Lakers need another player that can get his own shot. Right now Kobe is the sole player on the team that can do that. Pau needs help to score. Lamar though he can he is extremely limited and is never one to really do that anyways. The problem exposed against Boston is that other than Kobe, you just have to stay at home on the other players. As athletic as they were on defense they could crowd Kobe and then play with discipline when closing out shooters. Sasha's shooting PCT problem drops 10pts when he is forced to dribble. Vlad's even worst.

With the triangle a true PG isn't necessary. For that reason I think the team just needs another bona fide scorer who can take over when Kobe is out or off. SA has Ginobli & Parker and they have won a 3 championships with those two. Even if that scorer is a 6th man. Just someone else that can simply take over if necessary.

I would love to get Felton. He has played on an injury riddled team with two coaches in three years. With any consistency at all he will be a very good player. I think it would be great to create some competition at the PG spot since Fisher's minutes are going to need to be monitored over the next couple of years.

Back in the 2005 draft when the Lakers had the 10th pick and were supposedly looking for a PG to replace Smush I knew Deron Williams and Cp3 were out of reach, so the next best PG realistically within reach was Felton. I was hoping the Lakers would somehow move up a couple of spots to select him, but ended up with Bynum instead. I'm certainly not complaining about the point guard spot but it would be nice if the Lakers had someone that is a threat to put the ball on the floor and make plays and Felton is just that. He's a big bodied point guard who loves to create and can also take it to the basket with authority. He IMO is vastly underrated and should be mentioned amongst the top 10 PG's in the NBA.

Felton would be a welcome addition, but it would probably have to be part of a bigger trade (G. Wallace) and Odom would be going out.

Odom + Farmar for Felton and Wallace works, but I'm not sure I want Wallace. Why is a 25 yr old, 20ppg scorer/great defender so readily available? Perhaps because he's made of glass.

An interesting deal that might be beneficial for everyone, IMO is

Wolves gets Gerald Wallace
Lakers get Felton and Mike Miller
Bobcats get Odom
