I would like to see Coby Karl get some elevation on his shots. He almost has a set shot, and that only works when you are shooting those long 3's and people are not expecting it. But if you try to shoot that any closer, the other guy is gonna block that.

If Coby karl can work on his footspeed, then I think he may have a shot to stay in the league. He needs to focus on his defense, not his offense. Shooters are always good to have, but if he can up his D, then I hope he stays with the Lakers.

Has anybody even bothered to watch Coby Karl during our SPL. The kid is complete garbage out there.

Here's a question.

Why do we still have Coby Karl? And how do we not have guys like JR Pinnock (who actually have potential) on our team or at least in our SPL squad?

I don't get it. Coby Karl is getting crushed against SPL competition. Mitch needs to get off Sasha's and George Karl's nuts and actually try to get some ballers in our squad to bring in cheap talent.

disgusting handles, so much so that its laughable.

worst shot selection ever. yes, worse than JR smith + iverson + carmelo combined.

probably the slowest basketball player you can imagine...

bang bang bang

sorry boy.. i feel bad for you. and admire your determination to return on court.

Coby Karl is athletic compared to what? Sasha?

He has well below average NBA athleticism regardless of whether he is playing the two or the three.

He needs to get some years in the league so he can get the respect of the players he'll eventually be coaching.

Sasha is younger than Karl. The facts are that Sasha started playing pro ball at 16, was touted as having pure PG skills and was targeted by NBA teams at 18. He has really worked hard to address his weaknesses, but came into the league with a deadly shot. It took him a long time to become comfortable, but he has always had the skill set.

Coby Karl is 25 and hasn't done much. He is maybe a poor man's Luke Walton, and that's not saying much. MAYBE he could become a Luke Walton-type player, but I can't see him developing the inside game Walton has...and Walton isn't a starter in the NBA.

Poor mans Luke Walton? They're nothing alike. Oh yeah, they both need a tan.

I see. Because I compare one white guy to another, I have no idea what I'm talking about and I'm somehow making the comparison merely because they're white.

Luke's a SF ideally, but plays some 2 and 4. Karl's a SG ideally, but lacks the athleticism so he plays SF regularly.

Neither is a good athlete. Both have solid bodies that are actually pretty good by NBA standards.

Both are decent ball handlers, decent passers, and decent rebounders. Both like to shoot the three. Karl seems to be a solid shooter; we all know that Luke HAS been a good shooter.

Karl likes to get inside a bit more than a lot of other SGs, probably because he's stronger than he is quick...so it's good. Walton likes to attack or camp at three. He doesn't really have a midrange game.

Neither is a good defender, but they are both fan favorites and get more from their coach than they deserve. They do work hard when they're on the court; I guess that counts for something.

Both have been tagged "high IQ players", but in reality they're fundamentally sound players who really feel the pressure and crumble under that pressure. Their NBA backgrounds accounts for the solid fundamentals. Their lack of pure ability accounts for their crumbling.

So there you go.

Coby and Luke are not very much alike. Coby is much more athletic than Luke, surprisingly athletic. Coby has a better much shot. Luke is shaky at best. Luke is better post player, Coby has no post game. Coby is a SG, Luke is a SF. To be honest, a "poor man's luke" is a poor comparison.

Agreed. Karl is actually a good defender when given time from what I've seen. His strength is his shot. Karl is 6' 4'' and skinny. Luke is 6' 8" and bulky.

Coby Karl a "good" defender? When you say "good", do you mean "good" for a bench warmer or "good" for an actual NBA player? I think Coby Karl plays with passion and that naturally gives him abit of fight on the defensive end, however, calling him a good defender is just not right. To be honest, the only reason anyone likes Coby Karl is because he is Mr.Irrelevent and George's Son.

From David Thorpe's chat today:

Quote:
LS (Southern Cal): Could Coby Karl eventually replace Sasha Vujacic's production if given the chance? What's his upside?

David Thorpe: (12:47 PM ET ) I like Coby's game a lot. Actually, I love it. You may laugh, but if I could pick 2 guys from his class to bring down to IMG for 2 weeks, he'd be 1. He can shoot and defend, and his heartbeat is first rate.

Thorpe is a really smart guy (did any of you read his full scouting of Kobe's present-day game from a year or two ago? Brilliant) and I'll take the assessment from a coach/trainer over any of the armchair analysis in this thread.

I'm not saying Karl is better than Sasha, that Karl is going to get heavy minutes in the NBA or anything like that.

But I do think Karl is a good player and a nice guy to have deep on our bench.

You know what he does for a living, right? He helps players improve their skills and trouble areas and he loves guys with heart/hustle, players like Karl.

Kevin Martin pretty much credits Thorpe for making him into the player he is now. Haslem was another one of his trainees.

He didn't say Coby Karl was a starting SG in the league, just that he's a guy with talent and a motor that he'd love to help train. Jeff Green was the other one he said he'd like to bring down.

So let Thorpe bring him down there. What's the problem? Coby Karl is not going to the Olympics, so his schedule should be wide open.

Put your money where you mouth is.

I'm sure if Karl approached him to work with their group, he would.

Or watch him flat out suck in every SPL game this season. Or watch every other time he played.

Well, to be fair, Bynum pretty much sucked a big one in SPL too. Bynum never dominated the SPL.

Karl is 25.
Bynum played SPL at 17?

^ Who's that in your avi?
(waits to be flamed..lol)

Coby will ultimately eventually end up in Denver playing for his Father. He will get starter's minutes at some point even & be the feel good story of that team. He will show them how to behave like mature men & also prove how you can still be cool without having any tattoos.

I laughed when Coby Karl did a double pump on a fadeaway jumper in the SPL. The sucker went in. But I swear it was probably one of the ugliest shots you can see. When Coby Karl get inside the 3 pt line, his shots and game just looks terrible. He's pretty good outside the 3 pt line though, that's because guys are usually slacking off of him quite a bit.
