Well I know that this thread was created to be sarcastic, but I am at work, bored, at 4 in the morning and I have been thinking about offseason moves. Tell me exactly how out of line I am with the following.
I think we should rekindle the trade with Utah for Boozer. I think, however that we should make it for Butler, Vlade and ATKINS instead of George. Utah needs a point guard and may be even more interested getting Atkins, who has performed very well for us this year along with Butler who is playing GREAT to finish out the season. Most likely, Divac would be waived and we could pick him back up for the Vet’s Min.
Secondly, I think we should go after Maglore in the offseason as well. I believe that putting together some expiring K’s and a serviceable Center might possibly be enough to do the job. Trading George, Slava and Mihm for Maglore and Dickau would be ideal; however, I don’t know how likely this is.
I think we should the pursue Griffin for our backup PF. He has done great in Minnesota and would do very well for us as well. I am not sure what price range he will be in, but if we can pick him up for the MLE, I say go for it!
Draft Felton, Head, and a player that fills an area of need and we would be set!
If all deals went through as I have lain out, our roster for next season would look like this:
Dickau/Felton/Head
Kobe/Sasha
Odom/JJ
Boozer/Griffin/Cook
Maglore/Grant/Divac
And an extra draft pick
I may be off and just not know it… I have been up working all night. To me, however, this sounds doable and realistic. What do you all think? |

i like your plan, even if it's pretty unrealistic (though not impossible). i would make a minor tweak in the signings. i'd sign antonio daniels or marko jaric with the MLE (or earl watson if possible), and draft a pf and a pg (whomever's available).
unfortunately, the odds of picking up both magloire and boozer without giving up odom or the lotto pick are very slim. if it happened, mitch is a genius. |

Just think of it this way, the lakers stink WITH Lamar & Caron...
I'd rather be good, than have a "certain" player... |

Wow, if you want a really great trade, how about this one?
L.A. Lakers trades:
C Brian Grant (3.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 16.4 minutes)
PF Lamar Odom (15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.7 apg in 36.3 minutes)
C Vlade Divac (1.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.1 apg in 7.6 minutes)
SF Devean George (7.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 20.8 minutes)
SF Caron Butler (15.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 35.5 minutes)
SF Jumaine Jones (7.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 23.4 minutes)
PF Brian Cook (6.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.4 minutes)
L.A. Lakers receives:
SF Jonathan Bender (5.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 13.3 minutes)
SF Ron Artest (24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes)
C Jamaal Magloire (11.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 30.6 minutes)
PG Speedy Claxton (11.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 6.0 apg in 30.1 minutes)
PF Carlos Boozer (17.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.8 apg in 34.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +14.4 ppg, -3.5 rpg, and +4.4 apg.
Indiana trades:
SF Jonathan Bender (5.1 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 13.3 minutes)
SF Ron Artest (24.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 41.6 minutes)
Indiana receives:
PF Lamar Odom (15.2 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.7 apg in 36.3 minutes)
SF Jumaine Jones (7.2 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 23.4 minutes)
PF Brian Cook (6.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 15.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, +9.9 rpg, and +1.3 apg.
New Orleans trades:
C Jamaal Magloire (11.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 1.3 apg in 30.6 minutes)
PG Speedy Claxton (11.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 6.0 apg in 30.1 minutes)
New Orleans receives:
C Brian Grant (3.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 0.5 apg in 16.4 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -19.5 ppg, -8.2 rpg, and -6.8 apg.
Utah trades:
PF Carlos Boozer (17.8 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.8 apg in 34.8 minutes)
Utah receives:
C Vlade Divac (1.5 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 1.1 apg in 7.6 minutes)
SF Devean George (7.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 0.9 apg in 20.8 minutes)
SF Caron Butler (15.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.9 apg in 35.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +6.1 ppg, +1.8 rpg, and +1.1 apg
Now, with this trade, we would have essentially traded:
Shaq, GP, Fox, Divac, George, and Cook
FOR
Mihm, Atkins, Claxton, Boozer, Maglore, Artest, and Bender
That would be awesome and I know, I know, COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE because no one is going to take Grant's K. But I am going to keep wishing! |

I like that 1 I would even trade butler and odom for kmart.. martin is a defensive beast..his offense is above average to. i know it would be like trading shaq for martin..but martin is what 27? he would make more impact then those 2 combined.

TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to L.A. Lakers and Minnesota being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. L.A. Lakers and Minnesota had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. |
