I introduce to you... the ClubLakers.com Good Call!

Good Call will be a weekly game where you members will guess the outcome of Laker games in four different categories:

• Who will win the game? (10 points)
• Who will be the Lakers' leading scorer? (5 points)
• What will be the margin of victory? (Your difference)
• What will the Lakers' field goal percentage be? (Your difference rounded to the nearest whole number)

The way it works is that the less points you have, the better.

For example, for "What will be the Lakers' field goal percentage," you will obviously try to guess as close as you can. Let's say the Lakers shoot 43.6% for a particular game. This percentage will be rounded to the nearest whole number (44% in this case). Now you guessed 49 %, which is 5 points off. Therefore, 5 points will be added to your score. However, if you are able to get it right, your score will stay the same. This same system goes for the margin of victory. However, if you guessed the team wrong, that will factor into the difference (Added 1/10/04). For example let's say the Lakers are playing the Mavs. You guessed the Mavs would win by 6 points. However, the Lakers win by 8. That means you were 14 points off (instead of 2) since your earlier guess of the winning team factors into this.

However, there's a bit more to the scoring system. Guessing the winner of the game will be worth 10 points. Therefore, if you get the winner right, your score stays the same. However, if you get it wrong, 10 points will be added to your score. This same system will go for guessing the leading scorer of the Lakers, except that question will be worth 5 points. If two or more players are tied for team-leader in points for the Lakers, all those players will be accepted as the right answer (Added 1/10/04).

The deadline to submit your guesses is before tip-off obviously. If a game is delayed on TV to 6:00 PM even though it starts at 5:00 PM, you still will have to make your picks before 5:00 to ensure no one is gaining an unfair advantage by checking the live stats on the web.

If a player enters the game later in the week, 40 points will be added to his/her overall score for every day they missed in the week (Added 1/14/04).

There will be a winner of the Good Call for every week of the season. The leaderboard will be posted after every game, so you can keep track of all your scores. At the end of the week, a winner will be announced, and their username will be put up on the CL.com main Daily page. It will read The Good Call of the Week Goes To... (the winner). Because of this, no Guest entries will be accepted. You'll have to register to play-- besides, you'll get your deserved props when you win this way.

Of course, there also will be a "Good Caller of the Year." Whoever has the least amound of points at the end of the year will win this and your name will be featured on the Daily page throughout the off-season.

I will begin a practice round tonight for tomorrow's game against the Hawks. The points will NOT count for Friday's game, but it will see how smooth it runs and determine whether we'll have to change anything about the game. Feel free to talk about how close you were, why you guessed what you did or whatever else you would like to after each game.

Be sure to contact me if you have any questions or comments about the game.

Have fun playing!
