Bryant chosen to play on USA Basketball team

ORLANDO, FLA. – Kobe Bryant will make his dream come true by representing the United States for the first time as one of the core members of the next USA Basketball team.

Bryant told The Register on Friday night that USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo informed him he will be on the team that plays this summer in Japan and should qualify for the 2008 Olympics in China.

USA Basketball plans to announce 6-12 core players within the next few weeks.

"He (Colangelo) said he and Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski) are excited to have me play on the team," Bryant said.

Bryant is the first player to be identified publicly as a member of the team that Colangelo has billed as "the first national team ever selected." After meeting recently with Colangelo, Bryant said he came away thrilled about the opportunity that awaits him in international play.

IMO this team has shooting, defense, bangers and is fairly young and will probably peak untill 2008 (when the olympics start)

*Iverson will be kinda old by then but, the USA team committee has interest in him already so that is why I added him on the list.

The one thing I am worried about is him getting injured or fatigued. I would be fine with him just resting for the summer.
