Seeing as the pick will probably be higher than where JR was drafted (58 I believe), I would really like to know from someone with some knowledge whether or not this roll of the dice was worth it.
All I can say is that he must've really impressed us for us to take the risk of trading the pick. This is a little out of the norm from what we've seen of Mitch Kupchak.
My feeling is that maybe this will apply more pressure to our current young guards - Von, Smush, Farmar, Sasha, even Evans, to step up their game cause they have more competition at their spots. _________________

Yes. He is. And he's a higher pick than LA will get because they'll dominate next season. He (Pinnock) was scouted heavily by the Suns and Mavs, which shows that he likely had a lot of talent. _________________

Also, for the record, I'm under the assumption that we are trading one of "our" 2nd round picks, not those aquired in trades from Charlotte. Maybe Mitch feels that he can take this chance because of those owed picks. _________________

we have 2 second rounders left next season. We got rid of the worst one. No need to stock on second round picks. _________________

Well, the way in which we got him, it clearly wasn't worth it. Rolling the dice on him? Perhaps, but that remains to be seen.
JR was really projected to go UNDRAFTED in this draft, and there were quite a few players who went undrafted (Taj Gray, Terrell Everett, Justin Williams, Louis Amundson, Curtis Stinson, etc.) who should've went ahead of him. That's why, initially my first impression was that Mitch saw something in him that we didn't see (perhaps in workouts). I'm not a huge fan of Pinnock, he's sorely undersized for the two-guard position at 6'4" and despite the fact that he can rebound and get assists fairly well, sorely lacks range in his jumpshot. His mid-range jumpshot is streaky as it is and he will definitely lack NBA-three point range. He sorely needs to round out his game in order to have a chance to make this league and definitely could've used another year at George Washington, but I honestly compare him to a poor man's Wafer without the jumpshot: another 6'4"-6'5" guard with athleticism. I was definitely surprised to see the Lakers try to get him at the #58th pick, if we wanted him that badly he was definitely likely to become undrafted and we could've secured a spot for him via summer league.
In fact, the Lakers could've used the 58th pick on the defensive scrappy guard they need, such as Will Blalock, which would've been a definite steal for sure at that pick. However, I guess Mitch didn't want to draft two rookie PGs, but nonetheless, that would've been a good pick. _________________ Ideal Lakers: Kirk Snyder, Derek Anderson, Fred Jones, Theo Ratliff, Mickael Gelebale Others of interest: Ricky Davis, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, Quinton Ross, Yakhouba Diawara, Walter Herrmann, Salim Stoudamire, Devin Brown, Michael Finley, Juan Dixon, Brian Skinner, Jamaal Magloire, Kareem RushMORE |

Yeah the thing is.. is that San Antonio and Detriot were picking after Dallas..
coincidently those were Pinnock's two other workout teams along with the Wizards.. maybe the Lakers had some info that San Antonio set to pick him and Mitch didn't want to take the chance of signing him undrafted. _________________

this seems to be the most logical explanation. _________________

Well, I read an article saying that the Lakers' scouts thought that PINNOCK WOULD BE DRAFTED IN THE early to mid-30s in terms of picks.
Wow, their scouts couldn't be any more wrong...maybe that's why they drafted them in the first place. _________________ Ideal Lakers: Kirk Snyder, Derek Anderson, Fred Jones, Theo Ratliff, Mickael Gelebale Others of interest: Ricky Davis, Jason Williams, Bonzi Wells, Quinton Ross, Yakhouba Diawara, Walter Herrmann, Salim Stoudamire, Devin Brown, Michael Finley, Juan Dixon, Brian Skinner, Jamaal Magloire, Kareem RushMORE |

| If you ask me now, Pinnock was worth it at #58. I did not say that on draft night. All we could base these things on are the summer league. Pinnock is playing very well in Summer League. |
