Stern giving over Waded the trophy on a silver platter was pretty disgusting to me. _________________ Sweet Daddy Barnstable's Bad A** Broads:

Since its fresh in my head:
That 3 pointer Farmar took in the 4th of the Portland game. Coming in a close second would be the blown 2 on 1 where he didn't dump it back to Kobe.
Not so fresh in my head:
Nearly everything William "Smush-I-should-be-out-of-basketball" Parker related
Karl Malone going down before the finals leaving us with Devean as one of the go-to guys
Tim Thomas fricken rebound and 3 pointer _________________ Q: Do you understand that the Sacramento fans might be frustrated with the uncertainty?

It started in the 90's, losing every year to either the Sonics or the Jazz.
Then '03 was the worst, I so badly wanted to win a 4th in a row. After 3 in a row I'd gotten so used to winning every year I'd forgotten what it was like to NOT win. Then when SA beat us and Kobe was crying and all that it was just crushing.
'04 was just as bad, that was the worst Finals I've ever seen, we got blown out in almost every game, it was a joke. _________________ Weezy's Weemens

2003 NBA playoffs versus the Spurs. In the game 5 comeback, where Medvedenko almost single-handedly brought us back in that game hitting shots from all over the floor, rebounding, etc. Horry's shot at the end of the game which would have won it for us -- went in and out. The series came back to Los Angeles with the Spurs leading 3-2, then finished us off in Staples in game 6, denying us a 4th straight title.
Horry and the Lakers weren't the only ones robbed that game...
I had come up with the QUAT-ROW slogan that was being used everywhere, had it trademarked, etc. I also did the logo design for merchandising. I had official approval from the NBA, a licensing company handling the merchandising -- and deal memos from all the licensees signed and waiting for the Lakers to win their 4 in a row.
I won't go into detail here, but we had deals waiting to go into effect that added up into 7 figures. Yep, it's true.
Someday, I'll recount the entire story, start to finish. It was a wild ride. And very painful in the end -- from my early legal batlles with the NBA to being officially sanctioned by them; from having Tim Leiweke and Mark Madsen chanting Quat-row at the Laker's victory parade after their three-peat; having Jim Hill and Kobe talking about going for Quat-row on the post-parade show; having Anschutz Corp. trying to get the trademark; from me being escorted off the premises at Staples after Anschutz was denied ownership of the slogan because I had created it and trademarked it first, etc., etc.,
Oh, the stories I could share. Maybe one day.

Horry's missed potential game-winner in 2003 against the Spurs. I still can't watch a replay of that game or that play. It was heart-breaking as a Lakers fan, and also the moment that sealed Horry's future as a Laker (that they didn't pick up his option and let him go). _________________

This thread is really depressing So many heartbreaks over the years, kind of glad/sad that I wasn't old enough for the Magic/Showtime Era and the Boston battles. Pros and cons to it, but I would much rather have been able to see them but I was a youngin'. _________________

Damn Alleyhoops, I didn't know you had done all of that. I remember it being much talked about, but man.
Well hey, I'm not sure how the trademark process goes, but if a team wins four in a row in the future will you get royalties? _________________

04 Finals - Not healthy and crap officiating (doubt Stern wanted an accused rapist holding up the trophy).
06 Finals - Watching the title being handed to the Miami cHeat. |

I have the trademark for the state of California. After a very long battle with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, they refused to trademark Quat-row, because it was not a "brand", rather a slogan on a tee-shirt and other merchandise. My attorney's argued that it was idnetical to Pat Riley's 3-peat which was granted a trademark, but in the "system" you cannot use another example as an argument. The USPTO refused to comment on 3-peat. Bottom line, it's all about clout. Had Riley attempted to register Quat-row, they probably would have given it to him. The world is not always a fair place.
Hey, yeah, that game 5 in 2003 San Antonio was brutal. How much were we down in the fourth quarter, 17? And then Slava COMPLETELY went off against the Spurs.
Man, that dude had a beautiful stroke and some more than decent skills. Too bad he couldn't get his act together. Management was high on him and gave him more than enough opportunities to excel.
Back to that series. As the Spurs were putting us away in game 6 at Staples, my girlfriend was crying because I had put a full year's worth of effort in the Quat-row campaign, invested a good deal of capital and was watching it all go down the drain as the minites and seconds ticked off the clock. It was avery weird feeling. I was pretty resolute about it. I knew rom the start that it was a risk. But stil... _________________

True that, props to you big time Alley. I remember telling all my friends that we were going to bust a, "quat-row" and I think the logo was at the top corner of the Lakers site that whole season.
You actually took your idea and did something with it and pushed for it to happen, while it didn't happen in the end, definitely be proud of how hard you worked. _________________

"The Phantom Foul". 1994. Bulls vs. Knicks in the ECF. Scottie Pippen was on the verge of solidifying his career even further...until that moment.
Bulls lose to Magic in 95'. Mike gets the ball stripped from him by Nick Anderson. Damn.
The 2004 collapse of Kobe, Shaq, Malone, Payton, and the Lakers to the Detroit Pistons. Not for nothing, you will rarely see a team like that Detroit Pistons squad. No true standout player. Just a great team with the hunger of starving champion. _________________
