Billups, Kidd, Carter, Wade, Carlisle, Montgomery on Kobe

Billups, Kidd, Carter, Wade, Carlisle, Montgomery on Kobe

How many minutes did he play, 42? If he had an overtime game, maybe (100 would be possible)," New Jersey guard Jason Kidd said.

"Wow. That's all I can say," Kidd's teammate, Vince Carter, said.

Detroit's Chauncey Billups said: "If you have it going, you're supposed to keep it going. ... Unbelievable."

"Everybody was calling," said Miami guard Dwyane Wade, who got updates by cell phone while dining at a restaurant. "Everybody called every player in the league."

Coach Rick Carlisle, whose Indiana team got torched by Bryant not so long ago, said, "I don't feel so bad about the 45 he got on us now."

And coach Mike Montgomery's Golden State team, which is next in Bryant's crosshairs Friday: "I wish we had King Kong (to guard him). Anything we can do, we'll do."

I was watching some games on League Pass and everyone made a mention of Kobe's game before/during the game. Tom Heinson seemed to have "hated" on Kobe's performance the most, brushing it off by referring to Wilt's averaging 50 points, saying "now that was special."

Nice to see some class amongst our NBA players who can give props when props is due....unlike the MIAM HEAT.....

MIAMI'S TAKE:

"Miami Heat Coach Pat Riley, who guided the Lakers to championships in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988, downplayed the feat.

"Anybody who's got the kind of energy to try to hoist up (nearly) 70 shots is going to score a lot of points," Riley told reporters in Miami, referring to Bryant's 66 field-goal and free-throw attempts. "It's remarkable, the execution and the efficiency, but we've got a lot of guys in this league, if they took 70 shots, they'd score a lot of points."

Heat forward Antoine Walker, a 10-year league veteran, spoke ominously of what might await Bryant.

"I think with the 81 now, no other team or other players will let that happen," he told reporters. "Now guys will foul out trying to stop him from doing that. If someone gets 81 on me, I'm going to clothesline him."

"He told us to get him 50 shots," Walker said, suggesting that O'Neal was fully aware of Bryant's display.

O'Neal declined comment."

What is up with MIAMI. I can't fathom how they can hate so much. I can understand DALLAS being bitter after Kobe dropped 62 on them in 3 quarters....but MIAMI?

Looks like our old boy Shaq has had ALOT to say about Kobe to his teammates, coach, and organization after he left us.

On another note, looks like the "supposed" love-in initiated by Shaq on MLK seems alot more disengenuous right about now........

I guess that would mean Jordan wasn't special? :man10:

Riley is obviously bitter over the what has transpired with Shaq and his deteriorating play this season. Riles is now looking like the bozo on the end of that deal, especially with that massive contract extension given to an aging player.

Riles has a HUGE ego, and probably feels the heat with Kobe excelling and Shaq turning into just a shell of his former self after getting paid.

Riles, as a GM, you were bamboozled....by Mitch of all people. Now you feel you have to hate? That's low class Pat. Chick would be disappointed in you.

I want to hear shaq's and MJ's comments.

Without comments from them, kobe's 81 is not that great.

70 Shots....mayyybe. Plus 48 Shots is a big difference and I understand it was sarcasm, but guys still can't score 81 on 48 shots. I have never seen anyone go on a scorching blaze of fire like Kobe does.

:man10:

Yeah, that's something I'd pay to see. Walker trying to clothesline anyone. First he'd have to leave the 3 point line, which I haven't seen him do all year. Then he'd have to get physical with a player, something he doesn't believe in. And he'd have to knock him down. He's so chubby and slow, Kobe would be down the court by the time Walker got his arm up.

I'd love to see what would happen if Walker actually knocked someone down. I don't care if it's Steve Kerr, they'd get up and beat the hell out of him, and Walker would then run to the bench crying with this look on his face...
