Happy Birthday 81

3 years ago we watched the greatest performance of all time.
Players will come and go, but this will be remembered.

how bad was that game? if that was lebron.. he woulda had 20 rebounds and 15 assists along with 81 :boxing1:

I remember when he passed 50 in the 3rd qtr and I forced my brother to "leave the Laker game on because Kobe has it goin bigtime". When he threw down the two-handed hammer dunk for 70, the hairs on my arms raised, also cuz he passed MJ's 69 pt performance which I also watched. MJ got nothin on Kobe - may I repeat "MJ GOT NOTHIN ON KOBE"

stupid smush and mihm damn scrubs had to shoot 19 times and get 25 points!
kobe could have had 100!

but honestly man this game seems like yesterday.. just looking at the boxscore gives me chills that is just sick.

Yup, Kobe Bryant is the greatest shooting guard of all time. Michael took Dr. J's moves and added to them, Kobe took what Michael had and added to it. Kobe Bryant is the upgrade with a better outside shot. And he wears the legendary Lakers jersey. I love Mike, I'd pick Kobe over Michael if I had to start a new franchise. Folks on the east coast really need to cool it with the Lebron James talk. The guy has miles to go before he can do all that Kobe has already done.

I think this is starting to get more and more unbelievable for me as time passes. I mean I watched it, I've seen it many times, but still when I really think about it it's hard to fathom. He scored 12 less points than the Clippers average per game this season. I was reading the article about yesterday's game and they mentioned Shaq's 61 and man 61 seems like a lot, but Kobe scored 20 more than that, it's just ridiculous, I don't see it being done again.

I'd say they're about even. Like 81 is 81. But with 65, came lots of clutch and ridiculous shots. But also consider that it went to OT.

Man the arc on his J was GREAT that season. His midrange/perimeter game was deadly that season. Notice how he adjusts his form on this final free throws, he's just in a GROOVE at that point and can make anything, he knew EXACTLY how to shoot the ball to get it into the rim.

LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant caught the replay of his 81-point game earlier in the day Thursday, exactly three years after he scored the most points in an NBA game since Wilt Chamberlain's 100. Two things caught Bryant's attention: the lack of facial hair on the now scruffy-bearded Sasha Vujacic, and just how bad those 2005-06 Los Angeles Lakers really were.

"We were down 20 to the Raptors, who weren't very good at the time," Bryant said. "Our team just wasn't very good. We needed that type of effort from me just to keep us competitive in ballgames. That was true the entire season. Now we just don't need it."

sometimes im afraid to watch this game b/c as great as Kobe was, his teammates were pathetic, that was some ugly bascketball, the triangle was a joke, the starting line up was a joke, the bench was a joke, the defense was a joke for the 1st 28 minutes....lamar was lamar, 0 pts with 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter.....he's stepping out of bounds, ...kwame was kwame....
