Greatest Player without an MVP Award?

Greatest Player without an MVP Award?

Postby thkthebest on Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:26 pm

I'm writing for theleftcoastbias.com, and I have four articles on the site now. Some may not like the other ones, but I figured I should post this one since it's a player many Lakers fans should appreciate. :)

I was thinking about the MVP award the other night and thought, “Who would be the greatest player without this award?” When you think of all the great players, it’s natural to think that they would have an MVP award. Jordan, Bird, and Magic all have multiple MVP awards. However, remember that Shaq only has one. Kobe almost was going to end his career without one (Lakers fan side of me: not winning in that historic 05-06 season is a sham). Stockton has none. Pippen has none. Wade doesn’t have one and might actually end his career without one because of LeBron. Payton has none. Baylor has none. It’s not unusual to see a great player end his career without this prestigious award. From the players without MVPs though, who would be the greatest of all-time?

Out of those 5 I'd say Stockton, but it's easy to see why seeing as he was playing with Malone. Same goes with Pip playing with MJ. Another notable is JKidd.

I can only speak about post 1980s bball because that's what i know, so, i would say Payton. I've always been a fan of 1996 Gary Payton.

Perhaps you guys should have finished the article. :)

It's Jerry West, and I thought that would have been an obvious one on a Lakers forum. Nevertheless, I do see the mistake I made in the article when I said "From these players". I meant from the players without MVP awards rather than the players I've been mentioning. I should edit that part.

Top 5 Candidates

Isiah Thomas
Jason Kidd
John Havlicek
Jerry West
John Stockton

Being a Laker fan, I'm partial to Jerry.

^Eh, I think West is clearly better than all of them. :)
