Heir'z Corner: Lakers Win 5th Straight Over Blazers

On a night where both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics suffered defeats at the hands of Eastern Conference flops, the Los Angeles Lakers (27-5), defeated the Trail Blazers 100-86 to take over the number one spot in the standings.

Kobe Bryant led the way with 26 points on 11-19 from the field and was assisted nicely by Pau Gasol who scored 19 points on 7-9 shooting from the field to go along with 5 rebounds.

Portland, (20-14) who was without leading scorer Brandon Roy due to a hamstring injury, held a 16-7 lead early in the game and ended the first quarter with a 25-19 as LaMarcus Aldridge scored 10 points, shooting 5-7. Portland would remain in front for the majority of the first half as the Lakers committed 12 turnovers before taking their first lead of the game 51-50 going into halftime.

Continuing to backup Derek Fisher as Jordan Farmar recuperates from a knee injury, Sasha Vujacic's 3 pointer was part of a 13-2 run by the Lakers in the third and helped extend their lead to fifteen heading into the 4th quarter.

The ugliest it got for the Lakers was when they failed to secure a rebound as Portland pulled down 5 of their own misses before Travis Outlaw finally connected on a three pointer in the corner. Vladimir Radmanovic scored on a 3-pointer of his own to put the Lakers up 84-66, their largest lead of the game, as Portland never posed a serious threat from there on after.

In addition to the play of Bryant and Gasol, the Lakers were led by Radmanovic's 16 points (12 of which came in the 4th quarter) and Lamar Odom's 10 points and 6 rebounds.

Aldridge would finish with 22 points on 11-19 from the field to go along with 11 rebounds to lead Portland and all five starters scoring in double figures.

The Lakers face New Orleans at home on Tuesday for the first time. The two teams have met in New Orleans twice this season already, with the Lakers taking both games.

Game Notes
: The Lakers were without starting SF Luke Walton due to inflammation in the big toe on his right foot. Due to his absence, Radmanovic was able to play 18 minutes, his most since Walton took over as starting SF for the Lakers....Brandon Roy missed his third consecutive game because of a right hamstring injury.....In his first seven minutes Andrew Bynum grabbed 3 rebounds, surpassing his total last game of just 2....Lakers rookie Sun Yue saw playing time for the second time in three games....Tonight marked the fifth straight game Portland has lost in Staples Center.
