Honestly Jamison is one of the last things we need to be worrying about right now. He's not a very good player, he'll have a hot game here and there but that's it. If we need to improve looking at him wouldn't be a very smart thing to do.

I feel bad for Jamison. With that being said he is horrible on defense, and thats the area we struggle with.

The decision to bench Jamison and play Morris more is puzzling. A guy that can do a few things well vs a guy that can do none well....

Jamison can play defense as well as Kobe and Pau on most possessions.... Not to say that they can't play defense but the minutes and demand on Kobe to score are necessitating he take a breather somewhere... maybe a scorer off the bench could limit his minutes a little..... naw...that won't work...... what was I thinking?

Its a valid and good point :jam2: . But unfortunately MDA doesn't want to expand his rotations beyond what is it 8?

I thought it was weird that MDA didn't put him in with the rest of the bench, but....

I'm actually glad Jamison's still on the bench. It would be depressing to see a guy w/his credentials mop up garbage time. AK

He either did something to MDA, or they are saving him for after the all-star break.

This is pretty much it. A veteran with his track record, you dont' throw in in garbage time with under 5 mins left.

D'Antoni said Antawn Jamison is too good a player to play garbage time. He could return to rotation at some point, but out of it right now.

^ Man, I hope that's it. Jamison's been a class act his whole career. You've never heard of him getting into it with his coach or other teammates no matter how bad it is and he's been on some awful teams. But this is absolutely baffling how he's disappeared from the rotation. I really feel bad for him. He came here for cheap, sacrificed money and minutes to play for this team and he gets treated like this?

I don't understand why everyone is throwing a fit over this guy not getting minutes. He's not producing anywhere near good enough on offense to warrant minutes given how bad his defense is. I'm perfectly fine with him not getting minutes right now, maybe he'll pick it up later in the season.

^ I guess it just bothers me that Kobe is getting played 40 min or close to it, every game, when you've got a guy like Jamison that can come in and give you some production. And our defense has been awful. Kobe is one of the worst offenders in that department. Not sure why people call out Jamison as being a bad defender.

i really do feel so bad for him

he took a big paycut to play for the lakers and win a ring and look how he gets treated by the idiot. he could have signed with his hometown team in charlotte for MORE MONEY and alot more playing time. he really doesn't deserve this

We need Jamison in the rotation if we wanna be an elite team. He is one of the key guys that we signed this offseason along with Meeks...I don't care how you do it Dantoni, just find the guy minutes. Whether its at the 3 spot or the 4 spot....get him in there with Nash. I see no reason why he can't play 20-25 mpg.....you shouldn't be playing Gasol or Howard over 35 mpg....You can find minutes for Hill and Jamison...they'll never be in at the same time, but you shoudl have one of them playing with Gasol and the other playing with Howard, and vice versa. Manage the god damn minutes, we can't afford to put this guy out of his rhythm.

Antawn Jamison hasn't played since Dec. 16 against the 76ers. (Sue Ogrocki / Associated Press / December 7, 2012)
By Mike Bresnahan
December 29, 2012, 8:00 a.m.
Antawn Jamison has seen just about everything in his NBA career.

“Not this,” he said Friday after sitting out a fifth consecutive game via the dreaded DNP-Coach’s Decision.

“Fifteen years,” the Lakers forward said, recapping his career. “My only thing is let me know why. I don’t think you go from starting and 30-something minutes to not in the rotation whatsoever. And not explaining to me what exactly happened, that’s the toughest thing. There’s nothing you can do but be positive and support your teammates. The only reason I came here was they said I was going to play and to win a championship.”

Jamison was signed by the Lakers in July for the veteran’s minimum of $1.4 million and a one-year contract.

He seemed to find his game shortly after Mike Brown was replaced by Coach Mike D’Antoni. Jamison had 33 points against Denver on Nov. 30 and then averaged 12.3 over the next four games.

His playing time and production dwindled steadily from there, bringing him to where he is now — next to rookie Robert Sacre at the end of the Lakers’ bench.

Earlier in the day, D’Antoni said Jamison would “probably” get back into the rotation.

“Everybody gets another chance and stuff,” he said. “We’re playing nine guys and I’m really liking Metta [World Peace]. We don’t want to lose Antawn because he does what he does. We’ll see. Antawn’s ready to roll if we need him.”

It was assumed his stats would drop after he averaged 17.2 points last season for Cleveland. It wasn’t assumed he would sit on the bench for entire games.

“There’s a competitor in me that wants to compete and I know I can help the team,” Jamison said. “Whenever I get answers, I guess I’ll feel more better about the situation but nothing has been told to me why nothing has happened or that I did anything wrong.

“DNPs for the first time in my career. I have not had a conversation with [D’Antoni] about anything about the situation.”

Jamison is averaging 7.2 points for the Lakers in 25 games, five of which he started.

i don't get why jamison is getting absolutely no run. i know he's weak defensively, but let's be honest, D hasn't been a concern of this coach historically.

the guy is great around the basket, is a 3 ball threat, can work the paint.

i'm really not sure what i'm missing here.

even in a blowout, you should get his legs warm for a few minutes, get him into some type of game rhythm.

It's because when you were playing it was uninspired. You weren't shooting well, or at least consistently well. And your defense was awful.

All that said, I hope he gets off the bench soon.

well if he's gonna ride the pine i hope the coach has a brief sit down with him at some point (a la gasol). don't want antawn checking out mentally, should we need him.

even when Tawn was sucking early this season, at least he was still getting rebounds and doing little things...its sad to see one of our top offseason pickups being a benchwarmer
