D'Antoni says Lakers 'can be better than most people think'

-We will be one "big"injury away to play Kelly/Harris or Sacre major minutes all season long... that's scary with the fact Pau/Hill/Kaman aren't exactly ironmen

- Defense is going to be bottom 5.

Probable case scenario: 06-07 season like which can quickly turn 04-05 like if too many injuries

We did add up some interesting players in Farmar/Young/Johnson but they are " all or nothing " type of players

I'll keep expectations really low. I don't think Kobe is going to be Kobe for this season for sure and likely the rest of his career.

I'll just pretend the Lakers are the old school LMU Lions with Hank Gathers (R.I.P.), Bo Kimble and company under the leadership of none other than Paul Westhead. I must admit I really enjoyed watching that team play, which they never stopped running up and downt he court. It was exhausting just watching them, but fun for sure. Here's to hoping that Nash finds his 30yr old legs.

While I'd love to go out & add TT or LO, you have to remember that D'antoni has a legit history of making guys into good role players.. If Kelly or Harris can do something well on offense D'antoni will probably find out a way to use them effectively..

If this team wins 40 games, it will be overachieving. I'm expecting probably around 25 - 35 wins personally.

I'm afraid we will be.

Kobe is going to miss a couple of months, and I'm not expecting the same player we saw last season when he returns. If Kobe returns playing at the same level that he played at before, that will be the first time that has happened in the history of the NBA when it comes to that particular injury. I'm not expecting Kobe to pull that off at age 35.

Pau and Nash are 1 year older and several years past their respective primes. I'm not expecting too much from either, even if the effort is there, plus they're now injury prone. I expect either to get hurt and miss significant time.

After that we have role players. Perhaps good complementary pieces if we had a solid core but we have nothing like that at the moment

So basically we have Kobe missing a couple of months and at best playing half speed the rest of the season. The other 2 of the core are injury prone and years past their prime, then role players. If this team wins 40 games it will be a miracle.

Here's the thing; we absolutely can be better this year than most people think we will be... but we can also be worse. We are probably realistically closer to the worse than the better given the roster, age, health, and coach.

Will we challenge the Bulls record? Possibly. We have a real shot if everything goes even remotely well. I think at worst we're a 65 win team. Oh wait. This isn't 2005? Nevermind.

Maybe so. Maybe not so, since it's Kobe Bryant. I'd love to get his honest response to the people that are so darn certain about this. Not arguing because you certainly aren't the only one saying it. To me it's just everything in his past history with the severe injuries he has played through, and "adjusted for" to still perform at high levels compared to normal players. That's where my hope lies. I know it's an achilles. I know, I know. It's also Kobe freaking Bryant. Just can't see him doing that poorly for the entire season.

42-40 is the most realistic scenario for this team

no way we win under 30 games and there's no way we win more than 50

What D'Antoni seems to forget is that the other WC teams have gotten better too. We made the playoffs winning 45 games last season. We're going to have to be better just to make it this season.

This team reminds me of the 92 team when magic retired. I think they will have 45 wins again and finish in the 7th or 8th. I do like Dantoni cockiness

Let's put the over/under at 36.

If you take the under and we win more, you're banned from CL for a week per win.
If you take the over and we win fewer, you're banned from CL for a week per win.

Over 36, definitely.
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

The over/under is pretty difficult with this team. If we knew health wouldn't be an issue we're probably a 45 win team. Health will most likely be a huge issue.... so I think the 36 number is a really good pivot point. I'll take the over but just barely at about 38 to 40 wins.

This is kind of embarrassing but, standing up, my name is LT and I'm a Clublakersaholic.

Please define banned. Does it just mean not yapping on here, anywhere, or "lurking" as well??? Also I always feel the need for my caveat of "barring significant injuries" with prognostications. Such as last year. But I have a hunch not allowed in this situation?

If you "win" - you get to post a sick signature I (read: my daughter) will make.

If you are "banned" - you don't post in LD! You can lurk and you can post elsewhere. Or you can post in LD after issuing an "I was wrong..." and eating some humble pie. Just for fun!

OK thanks. Whew!!! Was getting the "shakes" just thinking about it...... :man10:

IN for over 36. "Half full" guy in me says much closer to 50. But that's with the nowhere near the significant injuries of last season caveat.
