Blake for Felton "exploratory talks" (p.16 update)

Rock i'm sorry but I can't agree with you.

The Lakers needs a change. Yes sure, Blake has created a bit of chemistry with the team, but overall so what? His chemistry with the team has amounted in how many wins? His chemistry has done what? We're struggling this season and it's because of our PG play.

I love Blake. I honestly do. I know he gets a lot of heat here because he's not perfect, he's not the best shooter, and he isn't really a penetrating PG, but he's got a great work ethic and he's always scrappy. I love that.

But even with the positives he brings to the team, he's not good enough.

You've been among those of us trying to bring in PGs right? So where was your argument then? If we bring in a PG, then either Fisher or Blake gets the short end of the stick and I think we all know it's not going to be Fisher. If we get a PG, Blake might as well be gone anyway.

If we can turn Blake into Felton, even a Felton that has had an underwhelming season, we've upgraded our weakest position. Felton is better than any PG on our roster by far. Would it take time to gel? Yes, probably, but so what? The chemistry we have right now isn't cutting it anyway, why not upgrade and hope for the best?

We as Laker fans are selfish and want the best of everything, but if we have the chance to upgrade our team without giving up any of our Big 3 you do it no questions asked, hands down, 100%.

And what if we got him without giving up Pau/Bynum/Kobe? I'd take him without thinking twice!!!!

After about 5 games you might want to retract that statement....... :man10:

Unless we are getting a player back that expires or is otherwise a reduction in salary I'm not sure how we get a helpful player. I don't see them trading the TPE or the firsts.... if they wouldn't do it for Beasley why for Jennings?...

I'm with you.... Felton is miles better on a consistent basis than anything we have on the roster. Blake has only had one season playing "starter" minutes and it pales in comparison statistically with Felton's career averages much less his highest use year.

I don't agree with the arguments that Blake is great defensively. He does a good job on larger guards when he is on the ball, but he has been atrocious playing off the ball and leaving shooters at the arc..... I see his defense as average overall... he looks good next to Fisher but that really isn't a yardstick one should be using.

Felton has had decent years in the past...... in fact he has put up comparable numbers to Lowry..... the current "flavor of the day" in the past. Maybe not quite as good in some categories but fairly close..... He's a good point guard..... Trading Blake for him actually solves the problem I've had with this whole point guard thing in the first place.... we know Fisher's going to play no matter what.... keeping Blake and adding another guard puts someone on the floor out of position as all 3 would play...... and keeps Goudelock on the bench. The last thing we need to see continue is not developing a talented player....

^ Yes, if he didn't have to give up Pau/ Kobe/ Bynum, and we didn't have to take back a crap contract in the deal, then I would be on board with that acquisition, considering our pressing needs at point guard. However, there is no way, they wouldn't want Gasol in return, so the discussion ends. Now, I would be willing to take back Andray Blatche from Washington(crap contract) in exchange for Pau, and expiring next year(Fisher/Walton) and multiple picks, HOWEVER if Washington is expecting us to kill our cap space, and rid them of their problem child Blatche, I want Wall in the deal. I would be willing to take bad contracts back if it got us Wall, and we didn't give up Kobe or Bynum.

Anything, and anyone(outside of Kobe and Bynum) to get Wall here I am fully on board with.

The only way Wall gets out of Washington is when he's a free agent.... they aren't trading him. He on a rookie contract (cheap) and they want to see if he can fulfill his potential. Other than him there is nothing on their roster that I would consider even trading MWP for. They are truly the "island of misfit toys" when it comes to complete or even near complete players..... The Knicks acquire players like that..... not the Lakers.

Felton isn't a system guard. He's a freelancer. That's why so many coaches don't like him. Including Mike D'Antoni. The only coach that probably would have tolerated him would be Don Nelson if he was still coaching.

What if Washington dumps Rashard to us (I think contract expires 2013) then we get Wall and Nick Young for MWP/Gasol/MOrris?

Yes.... he is. Don't misunderstand me..... I would in no way want Jennings on the Lakers. If Mil. is trading him on his rookie contract (1 or 2 years left I believe) you would have to wonder just how bad he really is.... I would assume they will attach a poor contract or two to his price as a way of starting over.

This new CBA has teams re-thinking how they are going to dole out extensions IMHO....Mil has figured out that they had rather re-build that extend and build around Jennings.....

I think Lewis makes more than Gasol this year..... How would we get those others? Why would they want MWP?

Wall is ok, but Nick Young and Rashard are intolerable.

no thanks.

(by the way, Washington would never do this trade anyways)

People have wanted Blake since we had the chance to sign him.

Has he had any real notable games? Has he played with the consistency that some expected? Is he shooting lights out from outside?

No, it's already been 1.5 seasons and we still haven't gotten what we expected out of Blake. He just doesn't fit our team.

I would do the deal solely because LA will have to win in the road in the playoffs. I'm sorry but Blake's game does not travel. It was a knock on him in Prtlan and Denver in the playoffs as well. Stev this year is the best pg the team has at Staples, but on the road he makes Fisher playing big minutes on both ends a necessity. I'd take Felton because he might actually show up in a hostile environment and I know Fisher is not afraid of the road, which makes our chance of winning that much greater

Heck I would be good with Blake for Crawford if it was offered

Kobe_008- If it could be done, I'd do it. Anything to bring Wall here. Sadly, the only way MWP is of value is if that contract were expiring, which sadly it is not. If no trades are done,w e will have Kobe, Pau, Metta World Peace and Steve Blake who all come off the books, the year before Wall is a free agent. That means we would have a lot to offer Washington for him. I say stand pat for now, get serviceable cheap players, and let's not blow our chance at getting a franchise point, who would undoubtedly be the best point guard we have seen in Purple and Gold since Magic Johnson!

Point guards don't win titles. Big men and swings do. What pg team has won since Thomas and Magic? Kobe, MJ, Shaq, Tim, Boston, Sheeds Pistons, Dirk, Wade, and Hakeem have all the hardware. It may be a PG league in the season but they ain't brining home no hardware in the playoffs, as the best PG on all those teams is Tony Parker

We just need a decent starting point guard which we lack.

^^ I'm with you, therealdeal, Weezy and Roo. Got to get a PG, period, but realistically it's best to keep our big three together. That basically leaves this rumored deal and Sessions. I don't care a whole lot which way we go, but we should do one or the other if possible.

Like Roo said, the good news about this deal is that Blake would be a third wheel if we do pick up another PG. Fish isn't dropping completely out of Brown's rotation, so the new PG either replaces Blake outright or steals most of his minutes.

Blake really has been guilty of mediocre to bad play on the road while playing very well at home. It's pretty exasperating. Felton is a better talent at PG and at this point I've seen enough of Blake to know that he'll never be a lead PG for us - he's way too inconsistent. Upgrade with Felton and that's a big deal for us.

I have a hard time believing that. Every time I'd watch a Knicks game, I saw D'Antoni getting pissed off at whatever Felton was doing.

If D'Antoni did want to keep him, it was because he knew the others were worse than Felton was.

Our current point guards are worse than Felton...also Felton is an underrated defender. He's actually an above average defensive point guard. At least he was, haven't seen him play much in Portland to be honest.
