Breaking News: Malone Wants Magic's #32 To Stay in Rafters!

Postby BDG on Thu Jul 17, 2003 10:51 am

At the Laker Press Conference at Staples Center, Karl Malone said he did some deep thinking and he would like for Magic Johnson's number to stay in the rafters. He said that after all Magic had done for the city, he deserves it.

That's a great attitude right there... It just goes to show how much respect he has for the history of the NBA, and for the players... He isn't gonna take 32 cuz it's retired, and isn't gonna take 12 cuz someone has it already... That's very respectful right there...

Yeah that's perfect! I remember someone suggested #35 before, so we could be lined up with retired numbers #32-Magic, #33-Kareem, #34-Shaq, and now #35-Malone! That would be great to do that...

Funny how I used to hate his guts back in the day! Mailman's tha bomb! I can't wait to see him do his funky hand on the back of his head dunk in purple and gold!

I think we all used to love to hate him... I always hated the Jazz cuz of him Hornacek and Stockton, but they're all great players... And havin Malone to play with us, and for him to turn down Magic's number is a real relief... He's respectful for what Magic has done, and now I have even more reasons to love this man...

I used to hate Malone's guts. After seeing the press conference today, I started to really like him as a person. "Daddy" wanted to chase his dream as he told his kids. He came here for a HUGE paycut and that shows he really wanted to be a Laker and win a title.

i realy think that if he averages at least 15 pts a game this year that he will return for the second season in la and keep the scoring title in la. if he returns to utah to get it i still say thanx for the memories!! karl has shown in his actions that he is a great all time player!! hell in la he could play another 3 seasons remember hes old but hes in phenominal shape and didnt miss a game last season and kareem played till he was like what 42-43?
is shaq satisfied with three titles and continuing to blow up to 400 lbs or will he get the other hunger back and get down to 320 and win three more?? GO LAKERS 2004-06 CHAMPS!!!

yup. he's a free agent and they aint signing him this year. isnt that sweet? mad dog giving up his number for malone?? lol.
i use to hate malone for trying to beat kareem's record but if he's retiring as a laker, no harm done. imagine, 2 lakers on the top of the chart??
i have more respect for him since he has respect for our laker history too.

It was a real classy gesture by Malone to thank Magic for offering him #32.

It was even more classy to see him leave the number in teh rafters.

I know that his actions during the press conference has won him the hearts of a lot of Laker fans.

I will support him all out, and anybody that boos him is not a true Laker fan. True Laker fans support current players first. Then the past is appreciated and remembered second.

true, if you can't stick with a team through thick and thin then you're just bandwagoning. It was the right thing for Malone to do, and Laker fans should be happy that he took an $18 million paycut to help win a title.
