Brown on the PG rotation, Morris & Blake to see time at SG

BDG wrote:Seriously how do you screw up this rotation? Mitch has put an adequate backup at every position (save SF perhaps).

Blake is the backup point guard unless Duhon surprises us.
Meeks is the backup shooting guard. End of story. It's what we signed him for.
Ebanks is the backup small forward, as that's his natural position.
Jamison is the backup power forward. NOT backup small forward, seeing as he hasn't played that position in years.
Backup center is Jordan Hill ... or even moving Gasol to the 5 when Howard goes to the bench.

Darius Morris should not be seeing any sort of playing time because he absolutely sucks.

It's so straightforward it's almost impossible to screw it up.

Pretty much this.

Im fairly positive that 95% of CL posters would do a better job than MB (given our roster and assistant coaching staff).

It amazes me that the best team in the league (on paper, at least) can have one of the worst coaches currently drawing a paycheck. Let him run practice, let him talk to the media, just keep him the hell away from the court on game nights. Let Jordan and BB coach the team, I guarantee you they would do a much better job.

Mitch has setup this current roster to where it's damn near impossible to F up. The rotations, the minutes....it is all really quite simple. Kobe's daughters could figure this crap out. But Brown in all his infinite wisdom is doing is damnedest to F it up.

I'm fine with Jamison capable of seeing some SF minutes, I'm fine with Hill being capable of playing some PF minutes, I'm fine with Ebanks capable of playing some SG minutes, I'm fine with the delusion that Blake is capable of seeing some SG minutes, and I'm also fine with thinking Morris can see time there too. Preparing them for those scenarios makes your team deeper in a sense, prepared for cross matches, and gives you options in case of injury or severe foul trouble. But for the love of all things holy, YOU DON'T ACTUALLY PLAN ON PLAYING ANY OF THEM AT THOSE SPOTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE WORKING FOR ESPN BEFORE THE ALL-STAR BREAK! :bang:

I think the point is if they have under contract that they may have to keep they need to find if they can play SG in a pinch. A matter of finding versatility. Bench guys that can play more than one position are more valuable than guys that can only play one spot. The real issue is I think they haven't found the backup to Nash yet and they have 3 guys that fit that role (4 if you went with Goudlock). Ideally a trade would help thin out the mix moving either Duhon or Blake. I honestly believe Morris is a long term project and they would like to keep him around, possibly starting in the D-league.

^ If the backup two guard spot was the only one he tinkered with -- I might agree with you, but it's not. Hill at PF. Jamison at SF. The entire 2nd unit is playing musical chairs.

Hill at PF is where he played and excelled last year. Hill is going to fill in for Pau/Howard when they go to the bench. The C / PF spots are virtually interchangeable with these guys. I don't agree with Jamison at SF as I don't think he can guard there. Unless the team has a zone planned.

Regardless of who ascends on the pecking order, Brown suggested he'd write the names in with a pencil more than pen. He considers anyone outside of the starting lineup interchangeable. Given the Lakers' complementary pieces with Jamisons scoring, Meeks' outside shooting, Hills' energy and Ebanks' length, Brown believes he can get enough flexibility to sort out various lineups.

He thinks these are multi skilled players who are interchangeable and he is dead wrong about it

This is about the time where Bernie is supposed to step in and knock some sense into MB. "For the last time Mike, Steve Blake (smack) . . . is not (smack) . . . a Shooting Guard (smack)"!

This.

His upgraded coaching staff is supposed to be keeping him in his damn place. Shut up Brown and put our players where they belong. How is that so hard?

This is just his way of letting us know that it can be much. much worse than Ebanks at SG.

Some of them don't even have ONE skill to make them clear 2nd string players on most teams.

Well I can see if we win the Championship this year it will be in spite of Mike Brown...... not because of Mike Brown.

Just thinking that Morris belongs in the rotation at all is proof he needs to have a "Section 8" evaluation....

I get the feeling Brown is not very high on Meeks. Otherwise this wouldn't even be a discussion.

But then again...I'm not sure he knows who's backing up all four other positions either lol.

Where's that gif of Mitch sitting in the stands in OKC with that "look" on his face and the camera zooming in for a tight shot when we need it?

Now can the Brown defenders who think everyone else is overreacting see where we're coming from? Yes, it's way too early to say anything, but just the fact that Brown is considering something like this is reason to have us worry.

HA! Thanks :jam2:

Now can you "shop" in Lakers' fans at Staples all around Mitch instead, and make the zoom about 1/3 as fast? :man10:

For Brown to talk like this regarding the SG position, I have to believe that Meeks must not be playing very well at all, that he has underwhelmed in training camp so far. If Brown is saying that to light a fire under him, maybe that's a good thing.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

How bout we wait until the Lakers lose their first regular season game because Gasol or Kobe decide to pass to Durant late in the game with a lead before we start blaming Mike Brown for his rotations. I watched the same games you guys did last year and I do not see a coach who is costing his team games. What I saw was boneheaded plays made at the end of games that should have never happened.
