Bryant WILL play in Summer Olympics

Postby Lakers Dynasty 2000 on Mon Jul 28, 2003 11:20 pm

LOS ANGELES (AP)— As expected, Kobe Bryant won't play for the U.S. team in next month's Olympic qualifying tournament in Puerto Rico, although his agent said Thursday the Los Angeles Lakers star intends to compete in the Athens Games in 2004.

There was no mention of the felony sexual assault charge Bryant faces in the statement issued by agent Rob Pelinka. It said only that Bryant won't participate in the qualifying tournament "due to rehabilitation work from his recent arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgeries."

"Kobe, however, remains 100 percent committed to representing the United States at the 2004 Games in Athens," the statement said.

Kobe playing basketball for any team depends on how the trial goes and when the trial actually starts. If everything goes well he will play for the 2004 Olympic team. He will not play in qualifying and depending on the trail he may not play any preseason games and expect for him to miss a lot of regular season games is the trail goes on as expected.

kobe will play in preseason and start of regular season because nba has a policy that it wont penalize players when they are not convicted (yet)
