Cab driver

Cab driver

Postby topcat61 on Wed Jul 09, 2003 9:05 am

This report about the cab driver spooks me. He says he picked up Kobe and some others from the hospital a few hours after the alleged incident. The police were with Kobe. Then the guy takes Kobe back to the resort where they grab all his things and take off. Why were the police at the hospital with Kobe? This was a day after his surgery. I wonder if they were getting some blood or other "specimen" to try and verify this girls story. There is some sort of evidence the authorities are looking at. I hope Kobe isnt as stupid as this suggests. :man4:
Laker fan since JW hit his famous 55 ft jumper against the Knicks, 1970. First game I ever watched. Loved the Lakers with the cool uniforms.

I am pretty sure this could just be some local man who wants to share the spotlight. However if this is true that definitely sends chills down my spine :man4:

Kobe covered his face so he wouldn't get noticed... its not uncommon for stars to do such a thing. Maybe he didn't have his bodyguard with him, and didn't want no one to know he was there. (outside of the lakers org.) I don't know.... if he covered his face with a towel that suggests hiding, or it could have been kobe just putting a towel over his head like he does at the games... The cab driver wasn't even workin that night... Its all about the spotlight.

The reports did not say that the cab driver was not working the night of the alleged incident, only that he wasn't working early Wednesday morning, thus becoming impossible to come in contact with. Nevertheless, I still agree with you... I don't know how credible the cabbie's story is.

The Cab Driver talked s'more tonight....listen up!

Postby NawlinsLakerFan on Wed Jul 09, 2003 10:55 pm

Kobe's midnight run

Vail taxi dispatcher and driver Terry O'Brien, 38, took three members of Bryant's entourage, who were staying at The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera, to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, at about 2:30 a.m., July 2, where Bryant had checked into the emergency room. O'Brien said he was paid a fare of $372 by Michael Ortiz, one of Bryant's bodyguards.

O'Brien said that when he picked up "three big guys," at Cordillera, "they seemed nervous and anxious."

One of the passengers said that he had to pick up someone, "a friend" who was having "the worst day of his life," O'Brien said.

They didn't talk much. The same passenger went on to say that he didn't know if he would have a job after this. O'Brien described them as "some sort of sports handlers or bodyguards."

"On the way down there, they were extremely stressed. (There was) a sense of urgency in what they were doing and some secrecy. They asked me to turn up the radio so I couldn't hear what was being said. I hear them mentioning Kobe. I hear they were from Los Angeles. And I put two and two together," he said.

"I got the vibe from the conversation it was a DUI because I heard them mention tests and legal contingencies. And they were troubleshooting some problem, looking at all the angles."

When O'Brien's taxi arrived at Valley View Hospital, Kobe was escorted out of the hospital by three or four police officers.

"It doesn't make sense," O'Brien said, trying to make sense of why the Sheriff's Office waited to arrest Bryant several days later, on Friday the Fourth of July.

Deputies "were there," he said. "The stories reported seemed to be missing a bunch. I couldn't understand why the Sheriff's Office had to get a warrant for his arrest and why he had to return on the 4th, because he seemed to be in intensive custody when I saw him."

Bryant got into the taxi and did not speak at all, O'Brien said. He was limping slightly. O'Brien suspects it was from the surgery. Kobe and two of the three orginal taxi passengers went to a back entrance of the Hotel Colorado.

O'Brien took the third passenger back to the Lodge at Cordillera. O'Brien suspects it was to clean out the room. That third person asked O'Brien to wait and to take him back to Glenwood Springs. But it was 5:45 a.m. and his shift was ending, so O'Brien arranged for another taxi driver to drive the man back.

The other driver said the third man put lots of luggage in the taxi and that he slept theersation it was a DUI because I heard them mention tests and legal contingencies. And they were troubleshooting some problem, looking at all the angles."

"I think the Sheriff's Office is looking pretty stupid right now," O'Brien said. "(What) I saw was a little mysterious. The way it was handled and the way he was handed off, kind of bizarre. Something was definitely amiss."

"It seems like something was going on behind the scenes that we don't know about yet," he said. "I don't want to discredit Bryant at all. My gut instinct is that he's innocent. ... This is totally contradictory to the image he has."

that is very true, Guest. Kobe went to the hospital to voluntarily give his DNA. All of this will prove to be a case of reasonable doubt. This cab driver comes out of nowhere. He is saying that he drove three bodyguards, Kobe and two police officers around. How big is this taxi anyway?

it had to be a shuttle or a "taxi van" if there is such a thing...

nothing is adding up now... we just have to wait for the facts.

what I don't understand is, if Kobe voluntarily gave his DNA the night of this alleged incident.....why would the sherriff allow him to come back home to LA and then tell him that they have a warrant for his arrest FOUR days later. None of this makes any sense.

Nope, you're right, none of it does make sense. I think we're hearing too many different things from too many sources. Once we find out if charges will be filed or not filed, I think some more info will come out. If charges are filed, then it will probably be longer than if they aren't because then Kobe will finally be able to talk if they aren't filed.

Maybe the cab driver's story IS valid!!! According to this article on ESPN.com an authority validated the story the cabbie gave saying that Kobe had been escorted by police to the hospital the night of the accusations, and was picked up by a cab. The reason he was not held was because he had not been charged with anything. Here it is:

I saw the cab driver, a white man on channel 9, KCAL news, and on channel 5 KTLA too... He was sayin thaty Kobe and his entorage were very secretive, and that they were talkin about the police, and that their phones were going off like crazy, and that they put the music on loud too. He drove them 50 miles too. He even drove one of them back to the resort to gather their stuff, and another somewhere else to look for a new hotel to stay at too... :freak2: :freak2: :freak2:

So, what do you think about this whole thing? Do you think that there is some possibility that something happened? Obviously, an allegation was made and all, but do you think there was a legitimate reason for filing those charges? (I still don't think that he did anything, though things are beginning to look more and more suspicious.) I think the reason some of us are beginning to have doubts is because we only hear from the "authorities"... we don't hear anything from Kobe's side.... nothing recently from his attorney, nothing from him, nothing from Vanessa... it's going to be very interesting to see how things play out.

But it's all in the good that we havent heard anything from Kobe's side, u know? The media only releases what their sources tell them, so obviously, Kobe's attorney has this on lock, u know? So when Kobe is exonerated, it'll just be a thing of the past...
