Glad I'm not the only one, I was thinking I might be on my own thinking that but I don't think it's a long shot to say this team can win as many games and actually win at least one game in the playoffs. Healthy I think we can do better than that. You can't discount chemistry, the full training camp for Pringles, some new youth and shooters, Pau possibly back to decent form and controlling the middle. With some luck on the health end of it, it's a very reasonable claim.

If Kobe returns 95% of what he was and no real injuries occur to the key players I could see them playing .500 but not more. I'd be really surprised if they make the playoffs with this roster with the competition as it is now.

I will say I think it will be more fun to watch this season and that's all that really matters.

More balance and cohesive? Yes

More talented? No

At the end of the day we lost Howard and Kobe was plying unconscious before his injury. I doubt he's as good as he was last season this year. Now in retrospect Howard made a bad decision

Had he stayed and bought in we probably have the same team we have now but with Howard in the middle, could have traded pau. He made his bed time to move forward and compete hopefully within the next 2 years at some point

I think we'll be a much better regular season team because D'antoni can go 10-11 deep this year. We didn't get to see Kobe & Dwight in a playoff series together so I can't say we'll be better overall.. If Kobe/Pau/Nash are healthy & playing well in the playoffs, we could be a tough out for anyone.. If Young/Farmar/Johnson/Kaman have good season/fit as well as it looks like they will, we could be a top 3 team out West.. I'm really looking foward to this season.

A top 3 team in the West, lakersin4? I appreciate the optimism, but I think you're going to be severely disappointed if you are expecting anything like that.

Realistically we are looking at being a top 3 team . . . in our Division! We're not going to end up with a better regular season than Golden State or the Paper Clips. I just don't see it. Nor do I think we end up with a better record than OKC, SA, Memphis, or even Houston.

We're shooting for a 7th or 8th spot. I don't even see how that's realistically debatable unless Kobe Bryant is on the same level he was before the injury. Miracles happen, but I'm not betting on them or expecting them.

I am actually glad to see I am not the only person who was thinking this. At the end of the day, Kobe was the main reason we got to the playoffs last year, not Dwight. I honestly feel like Dwight took away just as much if not more from the team with his bad attitude and poor offensive play as he gave us on the defensive end.

Also, the impact of the added athleticism and youth can not be understated. We just could not keep up with teams like the Clippers, Nuggets, etc last year. No Pringles team will ever be a defensive juggernaut, but I think we could see an overall improvement on the defensive end.

I don't think we are a contender by any stretch, but if Kobe can come back and play well, I think we will be right in the mix for the 8th playoff spot again in the West. Looking at the rest of the conference, I think that the Spurs, Grizzlies, Thunder, Clippers, Warriors, and probably the Rockets end up somewhere in the top 6.

That leaves the Nuggets, Mavericks, Blazers, us and/or some surprise team all duking it out for the last couple of spots.

With that in mind, if they are healthy, I can not count out Kobe, Nash, and Gasol getting us into the playoffs. I will not be devastated if this ends up just being wishful thinking and we end up missing the mark (or at least not even close to how disappointed I was with last season). But, I am quietly optimistic about the team overall and some of the new faces on our team like Henry and Williams.

I have to agree that I can't see us in the Top 3. That would be coach of the year honors for D'Antoni for sure.

If everything went right for us and wrong for everyone else, I could not see us as higher than 5th or 6th. In my mind, even finishing that high would mean that the Rockets imploded and/or Westbrook injury keeps him out for a long time and he isn't able to play well when he does suit up.

i have strong doubts that this team will be better than last year's. but i don't doubt that i will enjoy this season more than last season.

just making the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment given the west's level of competition and kobe coming off what is maybe the most serious injury that basketball players sustain at 36 years of age.

sas, okc, lac, mem, gs, hou are all in, barring disastrous injuries (a la last year's lakers). that leaves 2 spots for the lakers, denver, minny, portland, dallas, and NO to fight over. i'd probably bet on denver and dallas for those two spots, but no result would surprise me too much.

I don't think Denver will do very well this season. They lost their long time coach and while I like Shaw, there's going to be a learning curve here. They're dependent on McGee to be a long term viable option on both ends of the floor for the first time. They lost Iguodala to free agency... I just think they're going to have a tough time too.

Minny needs to get/stay healthy and THEN build chemistry. Dallas is a worse patch quilt than we are (Kaman left their quilt to come here :man10:). Portland is a toss up, but could make it. New Orleans is a cluster-you-know-what filled with young guys who need the ball to be effective.

I'm saying the Lakers get the 7th or 8th spot on that. In fact, if the Lakers can get healthy and stay that way reasonably through the season I put them up closer to the first half of teams than the bottom.

I think we are obviously better. With Nash healthier and Farmar and Blake backing up we are way better at point... Kaman and Pau are going to play great together and Pau being back at center we are better at center this year. A healthy willing Pau playing center is better than what we had last year. We don't have that dynamic force in the middle on D but it wasn't that great last year anyway and all the negatives that came with it really tipped the scales in the wrong direction. Our enthusiastic team defense will be much superior in a few months. A deep athletic bench we haven't had in years. Coach has a group of players wanting to play so the coaching will be better. We have assistants that fit and will work great with young enthusiastic players. The only thing against us is the unknown status of Kobe and I think the hype behind all of that will fuel him to get close to what he was last year. Kobe even close to last year makes us a serious playoff team. Johnson, young, farmar, blake and henry will all have career years in this system. Pau will be the Pau of old (or young) but he is going to be good. MD is the right coach at the right time. I know that is painful for some of you. The players seem to love playing for him. That means a lot.

We lose Dwight, Ron, Clark and Jamison, and I seriously expected this team to be pretty terrible.

But somehow, the combination of getting younger, players that better fit Pringles's system, more comradery (IE no Dwight), and a bigger pool of talent seems to have combined for an improved team.

I know it's only been 3 games, but it's pretty clear to me from just these games that we are improved in a lot of areas we were hurting in last year.

I'm calling it. Unless we get hit with big injuries again, or Kobe doesn't come back looking like Kobe, this team will be much improved from last year.

I've watched two of the Pre-Season games and I'm cautiously optimistic. The bigs look to have some chemistry and we will have some more dynamic scoring potential in Young and Farmar.

I didn't think last year was going to be as good as most so for me I guess I can get I could get onboard with the potential of this year being better. The qualifier will be injury. Unfortunately the odds against us having significant injuries with this line-up is Lottery like.

I still think we will win in the low 40's when it's all said and done. If we hit the lotto we may get to the upper 40's.... if we have significant injuries and/or Kobe doesn't come back it could be the mid 30's....

It's probably the most difficult to predict season since 2005.

100% right here.

It's be a fun team to watch and easy to root for but this team is far middle of the pack (let alone top 3). Best case is everyone is healthy, Pau and Nash turn back the hands of time a couple years, Wes, Young, X, Hill and
Farmar are big time contributors and Kobe picks up where he left off. Even then the west is stacked.

Besides Kobe coming, we saw Nash, Pau, Hill, and Blake miss significant time last year. Kaman isn't exactly iron man here. I hate to be a pessimist, but I think a realistic expectation is either just sliding in or out of the playoffs. For the position our franchise is in, that's not the best situation.

I hate to say and can't believe I'm about to but, if that's the case, I'd rather see a team filled w/pride, heart, grit and entertainment but we can once again chalk the season up to injuries/poor health and get a high lotto pick. At least that way we can add a valuable piece to build around... to partner with Kyrie and Durant in 2016 :man1:

Best case, everyone stays healthy, Kobe comes back well, they all buy into team defense, then I could see 4th or 5th seed. At best. Takes talent to win in this league and the Lakers are not that talented. Would have to play way over their heads to do any better than that. And frankly my dear boys, I'm not expecting that.

What I do expect: injuries. The core is old, no two ways about that. Really truly seriously hope MDA takes to Pop's way of doing business around his old players. Gives nights off to all of the old guys. Including Kobe. Understand the team has 19 back to back sets this year, that is 38 games total. Some of those 2nd half of back to backs will be the 4th game in 5 nights or 6th game in 8 or 9 nights deals. Hope they are looking at these heavy runs of games as opportunities to rotate the old farts out of the lineup as needed.

This. Much needed degree of caution. This isn't in MDA's pedigree, unfortunately. Mad Dog & Rambis will have to make the pitch.

I don't know...we are still heavily reliant on some older guys that just might be breaking down after some very long and successful careers.

Ultimately, this year is a shop window for everyone, so it should lead to some exciting play but I don't think it will lead to many more wins than 41 or so.

Unlike last year, as a fan, it will be a relaxing year. Low expectations and all that...last year was mentally punishing, trying to figure out how we could turn things around and what not.

better means we're a 46 win team at least. we're probably closer to a 36 win team.

i'd be surprised if we win the 45 games we did last year, great chemistry or not, the west is not easier to navigate than it has been the last few years.

Let's not fool ourselves, this isn't a championship team. But Is it a better team? Absolutely...I don't think some posters here realize how important youth & team chemistry means in a team. Look at all the other teams who DIDN'T have Nash/Kobe/Metta/Pau/Dwight & still competed with us, was it because they had better talent? No, it was because our team's chemistry was a mess & because we had no bench whatsoever to rely on, Jamison was our best guy & guess what? He was old too. This year we have chemistry that is through the roof & a group of young legs who are willing to learn & feel as if they have something to prove. Is our core still old? Sure, but so was Manu/Duncan/Parker & although we are not as good as the Spurs it's never a bad thing to have a core of experienced players who are older, not ancient, mixed in with an actual bench & players who can run.

Bottom line, I think we will win between 45-50 games, depending on when & how Kobe comes back...& yes, I expect to see this team in April in round 1...

I'm also not as impressed with the west as some people seem to be. Houston gutted their team to get Dwight, and we've already shown we can hang with Golden State even without Kobe. I just think we're use to seeing teams where you can point to three or so players that will dominate every game and every possession, while this team is built more like the Pistons last championship team. No, I'm not saying we're as good as that Piston team, just that similar to them, we're composed where the sum of our parts make for a greater whole. Certainly better than last season IMO.

Agreed. Given health, this team just seems to mesh properly. They fit well together, they like each other, they're in a system that fits their needs...

If they are blessed with relative health, they should do well this season.

Lest not forget, not many teams West really upgraded with exception to the Clippers, Houston and Golden State.

OKC has Westbrook coming of an injury. They lost their bench scorer with Martin leaving.
DEN lost Iguodala. Karl is no longer their coach and no disrespect to Shaw, but they are going away from their strength.
SAS got older and may fade away as they do every other year.
MEM lost their head coach and will playing a new system.

I would say top 5 are set, but not in stone. 6-8 will be a drawn out battle to see who wants it most....and if Kobe is back.

1. LAC
2. GS
3. OKC
4. SAS
5. HOU
