This kid is legit. He was the one who got more information than Woj about Dwight Howard free agency meetings with different teams this summer.

Of course he would not rule it out. Great city, amazing franchise, good money, an opportunity to shine. He's not crazy.

Here's to hearing about this all summer!

The way I see it is the Knicks have to struggle, the Lakers (specifically Kobe) need to look fun (not necessarily great), and maybe some of the young guys have to look like they're going to take the next step.

The good news if you want Carmelo is that there's a decent chance a lot of those things happen. D'Antoni isn't a great coach, but he excels at making role players look like potential stars. His system inflates numbers, gives opportunity for excitement, and could really be a fun thing to watch with these young players.

We have to look like we're getting better and not the sad hole we've looked like for the last couple of years.

i disagree, bc he has been telling the media he plans on signing with the Knicks. However, when he's with these kids/fans he tells them he may play with the Lakers to be with Kobe. To me it seems as if he's saying the "right thing" to the media so that there is no drama next year, but when he feels he's "in private" like he probably felt when he was just sitting down and talking to these kids/fans without the media around, then he probably feel more comfortable speaking the truth.

He knows dang well this sort of thing *will* be leaked and the leak will get back to Knicks management and media.

I still agree with those who say it's leverage. Especially if the Knicks have a good season. If instead they have a crap season then yes there is a better chance that he'll jump.

The same Melo who said this a few days ago?

Carmelo Anthony can become a free agent after the upcoming season, but he gave the strongest indication yet that his plan is to re-sign with the Knicks. "I'm not going nowhere," Anthony said during an interview Tuesday with Bloomberg Television's "Market Markers." Newsday

Or are we to read that as a double negative and thus believe he IS going somewhere? These guys talk out of their backsides all the time. If I have to guess I would guess he's not going nowhere.

Fixed it for you. Was grammatically incorrect with the same kind of double negative you mentioned right above that. :man1:

So he wouldn't not rule out not going nowhere, not meaning he will not play with not the Lakers. Nohow. :man11:

It's not really about leverage guys. He's going to get a max offer from the Knicks, no question. If he doesn't, he leaves. It would only be leverage if the Knicks had any choice BUT to offer him the max.

putting my Lakers bias aside and thinking rationally.. Melo has no reason to leave NY to come to LA --unless it was to join Kobe + another superstar (Bron/CP3/Howard). Howard and CP# didn't happen and LeBron is as unlikely as possible.

He can stay in NY one more then have max cap space to recruit Rondo/Love/Hibbert/Gasol/Aldridge to join him.

The dream scenario is LeBron and Melo come to LA and had they both been stuck in Cle and Denver til now with no rings, I'd say it was a lock to happen. But, they both chose exactly where they wanted to be and Bron's having historically great success.

I think our best plab may end up Cousins (if Sac doesn't extend him or match). George is going to re-up and Wall just did.

Jim and Mitch want the next great Laker dynasty and I doubt they believe Granger or Deng are those guys. Anyone who thinks they will use the cap space just to build a good playoff team is fooling themselves. Kobe or not, they are thinking how to build a decade dominant team.

On his his own (with Kobe/Pau/Nash) Melo isn't that.

Yes you are right Melo has absolutely no reason to leave NY and come to LA, he ain't coming here for money (NY can offer him more money than LA), he already in the biggest market in NBA (NY>LA as market), already in his hometown team, so there is really no reason why he wants to come here unless one reason .... he wants to come here to play for his best friend Kobe Bryant for a run to a title that he badly crave.

If he willing to take less money and come to join us, I take the chance.

Signing Carmelo and Nikola Vucevic is a golden team.
Kobe could average a 22,8,5 season easily. Lakers, after earning championship pieces this season with the new additions, would be championship calliber team.

He's playing the Knicks for a full max deal if not for the max/year more for the max time extension. He's at that age where one small injury can mushroom into a big issue and I'm sure time is more important than the overall per year.

I disagree that this guy badly WANTS a championship..... he thinks he needs one to complete his legacy and keep up with his draft class. Those are two very different things. Vince Carter wanted a championship in the same way.

I believe Melo can be a good #2 to Kobe, good enough to have us competing again.. What worries me is what comes after that. We'd have Melo in his 30s getting a max deal for 4 years.. Counting this season that would mean we need 5 more seasons of Kobe being Kobe to stay relevant, or it's likely we'll be right back where we are & with the CBA the way it is, you don't get a chance to hit homeruns as often.. I'm all for getting the best player we can to help Kobe finish with 6 or 7 rings, but we have to plan this reload with our eyes on the future much more than we did in the past. I don't think you get enough from Melo to justify giving him 20M over getting a guy like Deng for 10M or so. If that's an option, I think I'd lean towards Deng & keep some flexibility to add Love/LMA/Rondo etc in 2015.

Win today sign him if you can Two years under Kobe, he'll learn how to lead. This is a good guy for Kobe to mentor - he has skills. Defense can be learned at this level, shooting can't. See Dwight Howard. :man11:

Carmelo isn't a young man, he's not going to necessarily learn a ton from Kobe about basketball at this point in his career. I think he might be a little more focused, but I don't think he'd become a leader.

I really hope Melo isn't our prize. He's a nice player, but he doesn't have the type of game to lead us to a title. I don't know why so many people around the league think the Lakers will be able to bounce back with free agency. I think we are in for a long, rebuild. I could be wrong, but I feel this is going to be a dark 4-5 years until we get a really good couple draft picks to start at the beginning.

1. of course you wouldn't completely rule it out.
2. he's going to get max money anywhere unless he gets hurt.
3. i'd take him and sort out the rest later. he's got warts, but I actually think he's become underrated with all the negative press.
