what a horrid offseason...

still, we have NO SF. No capable bench players.

Honestly, the best plan is to tank. Tell Kobe to take a year off, trade Pau and Nash for whatever we can get and try and get into the top 5 and stockpile whatever assests we can net.

Well, I have a feeling Kobe will take his time coming back this season, and will be back for 2 more after this one with a reloaded Lakers team, plus he's got his 5 rings. Nash though, wants to get his one ring, and he's gonna be 40 and he had a bad injury season showing signs of breaking down. I think this may be his last, and he doesn't deserve to carry a d-league team.

But seriously...I think MDA' system can pump up his stats. I dont think you can trade players on 1 year deal but hope whoever we have this year outside of Kobe, we turn into trade assets to get 2014 picks or young players on rookie scale contracts.

Kaman actually has a solid 15-17 foot jumper, more reliable than Pau's. I like this signing; they should work well together and still allows Pau to play PF.

Good signing, given the options to fill the void and $$ we had to work with.

Well I'm sure the Lakers would love to trade him if he wanted to leave. Nash strikes me as a really mellow guy though and I think that he honestly would be okay retiring without a ring. Obviously he'd rather have one, but I think he'd be okay with where he's at.

Nash isn't the type to come out and demand a trade, so you're right he's a mellow, go with the flow kind of guy, total professional. Still though, he looked so disappointed last season, so worn down by everything, I can't imagine he wants to carry an awful team to finish his career.

Now you're reaching... big time. Kaman is a vet and when healthy, will easily outplay Sacre.

then let's do what's best for both him and our franchise: send him to a contending team that is willing to provide us assets. Miami, NY, Indiana, SAS, Chicago, and even Toronto (sentimental reasons) I'm sure he'd want to go play for.

If any of them want to offer up some picks and a stop gap PG, he's theirs.

Right now, we need to be about the future. We can either be foolish and try to put together a roster who can sneak into the playoffs but not have a first and thus prolong a full rebuild or tank, get one of 5 or 6 future superstars in this draft and then use 2014 to sign Bron or Melo. I'm sure they'll try and convince them to play together (along with cheaper Kobe and cheap Pau).

The worst thing we can do is be mediocre. Fall to the depths of the NBA for one season and then come out with a great team next and superstar of the future or simply wallow in the abyss of lost franchises.

What SF's, Ebanks is gone, Clark is gone, all we have is MWP who is rumored to be amnestied.

I'm guessing Blake and Meeks will spend time at the 3.

Kaman, who has good mid-range shot, will play next to @paugasol as Lakers stick with slow-paced ball that worked late last season.

I don't know if Ding was joking or not with that one, but this one is what it is, just the facts

@KevinDing: Lakers could've waited to see who fell through cracks but decided Kaman was best guy they could get for mini-MLE ($3.2m) on 1-YEAR CONTRACT.

Doc - good numbers.

For the record, Kaman's numbers in my system:
Scoring Efficiency: 5.9
Passing Efficiency: 1.8
Hustle Efficiency: 3.2
Offensive Efficiency: 86.4

That's above average. Not a good passer. So-so at the hustle numbers. Well above average scorer. His Scoring Efficiency was better than Robin Lopez's and just slightly worse than Ryan Anderson's.

Honestly, we just got a HUGE steal. If he can stay healthy for 60+ games this season, we are going to have NO TROUBLE producing points from the PF and C spots. He can rebound when he puts his mind to it, and he is big and strong. I have always liked Kaman. Serious market value steal right there. Maybe our mojo is getting better sans Dwighty Poo.

Next, we have to lock up Odom to replace Clark and hopefully we sign Sasha to add shooting to the SG/SF bench spots. I wouldn't mind Raja Bell either. Gotta think shooting ability and willingness to take 1 year deal are the most primary assets we are looking for with the Min contracts we can offer from here on out.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

As already mentioned, Kaman can nail that midpost J and has a good face-up game not to mention leaving five to ten points at the charity stripe. He is a decent rebounder. Not a defensive stalwart obviously but at least will give it an effort. I don't mind the signing as it will shave off some minutes for Gasol manning the middle. Last thing the squad needs is its best interior player ON offense to wilt due to the pounding...like ten games into the season.
No siggie...
