Great value & will stop us from looking like a complete joke in the frontcourt.. Especially if we can add LO next to him. Then we just need wings.. I take it we couldn't get Nick Young so it's all about Machine & Captain Jack.

Can somebody help with an answer? What kind of contracts can we offer to free agents after using the mmle On kaman? I know we cant offer full mles but can we offer multiple mmle similar to kamans 3+ million deal or do we only have vet mins remaining to offer of the small 1+ million contracts? Thanks in advance

So we replace 17 and 12 with 12 and 8 . We get quite a bit less defense as well..... But it cost us about 30 million less when you factor in all the taxes etc.

All in all we could do worse.

Welcome

Did anyone see the numbers guys like Pachulia and Splitter have been getting in free agency? For a capable Center this should be considered a steal. It all depends on staying healthy but Kaman has proven himself to be a player in this league.

I don't remember this, but apparently he was an All-Star in 2010 (must have been a lot of injured players that moved him up the list I guess), so if he stays healthy, he cannot be THAT bad. I do remember back when he was younger and with the Clippers he was considered at least in the top half of NBA centers. Again, If he can stay healthy, this might end up a quality signing. He's certainly better than Sacre, or Diop, or a lot of other centers we could afford.

Well liken I said, there must have been quite a few injured bigs to move Kaman on to the AS Team, but then he did average 18.5 ppg, 9 boards and a block that season. I'm just saying, I'm not down on he signing at all, I was afraid we were going to sign some no name big/d-league guy or a really old center with zero offensive game that's only in the NBA because he's tall. At least Kaman has some game and was a few years back considered one of the top centers in the NBA. Maybe not near the top, but at least in the top half if not top 10. I'm just reaching for anything remotely positive right now. :man10:

The Lakers have a long way to go before their roster is anywhere near being done. There's still a few wing players I could see us going after, but whether or not they actually want to come here is another issue.

No he had a great year. He has a really nice game it just isn't pretty. He has great touch around the rim, doesn't force shots and is a decent passer. I have always thought he was a very good big just not super athletic. He can score on anyone and is a pretty good rebounder.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I think Stoudemire was the one Kaman replaced. I am on board with what you are saying. Kaman was having a breakout year at the time so he is NO stiff. He has a good face up J and is ambidextrous with his hook shots. Kaman also has good ball IQ and won't commit dumb turnovers. To be honest, there are bigs out there who are better bruisers or can jump out of the building but overall Kaman's positives balances up. How much he has left on substantial minutes remains to be seen. I like it alone for the mere notion that Gasol won't get grinded playing too many minutes at the 5.

We could have done worse. We're tanking next season, and he provides another big body out there that can play minutes. That's all we're looking for right now...

kaman has always been a competitor, actually a far cry from dwight in that he doesn't care so much about having fun

a nice throwback to the old school generation unlike those new generation wimps who only care about having fun all the time

Can't remember where, but one article I read said that the Lakers would've been paying close to $200 million if they re-signed Howard and factored in the luxury taxes.

Obviously, the salary cap area is out of my reach, but if that was the case, $30 million suddenly became more closer to $60-70 million cheaper to have Kaman.
