Why Chris Kaman won't return to Lakers

Center Chris Kaman signed a one-year, $3.18 million contract in July with the Los Angeles Lakers and he says that was a mistake as he didn't do enough research.

"My bad on my part not doing due diligence enough to look into a situation better and style of play and that kind of thing," Kaman told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Kaman has been benched for a good part of the season, even though the team has been decimated with injuries, and while head coach Mike D'Antoni tried to downplay the lack of minutes, the big man was having none of that talk on Tuesday.

"As of lately, we haven't had a lot of practices just because we haven't had a lot of days with time in between the games enough to practice," Kaman said.

Kaman doesn't fit in D'Antoni's offense and he won't be offered a contract for next season.

MDA is going to be the cause of Dwight, Kaman, Hill and Pau leaving. :man10:

I like Kelly. MDA ignores all benefits that big players can bring if they aren't greyhounds and can shoot 3s. A**bleep.

this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who's been watching Kaman all year.
that's one guy we can count on who won't be back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I've probably said it before, but I feel bad for Kaman. He came here for a decent price because he thought he's going to get to play, instead he's been banished to the bench in favor of small ball, Wes at the 4, Pau getting too much time, Sacre playing ahead of him a lot of times he shouldn't, it's lame.

LOL. Caveman said D'Antoni hasn't spoken to him in 3 weeks. :man10: :bang:

I don't feel that bad for Kaman.. It seemed like the plan all along was to trade Pau & make Kaman the starting C.. If they would have gotten decent offers for Pau, Kaman would have got to start & put up great stats. It just didn't go as planned.

While Kaman may be an unreliable or justifiably hostile witness when it comes to speaking about D'Antoni, I have one question. If you have not spoken to or barely spoken to a significant (at least $ wise) member of your team for so long in what way are you doing your job as a coach, a motivator a manager of ego and talent?

Great game from Kaman tonight, I still hope 'Antoni is fired and he sticks around next season, even though I doubt he does.

It was great Kaman got in a great game because we know if Pau is really coming back next game Chris won't see the floor again.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I really enjoy watching his post moves, and when he backs down/bullies his way to the hoop and makes a hook shot bank like it's nothing. A move most bigs today don't seem to have, and to him it's a simple thing, makes me miss the days of fundamentally sound NBA big men.

With the sporadic and sparse playing time Stupid has given him it has been hard to have game rhythm. With normal playing time he should have had, his moves and timing would have been in better shape all year long. Big game against Suns and nice to see it. Shows what a dumba** Pringles has been for not utilizing Kaman and the 3+ million the front office spent on him.

I agree..... but he did better than Pau in the previous games against that front line. This is after he's been sitting in the bench for no reason as well.

Great game big guy.

I still maintain that a starting front court of Kaman and Pau for 30 minutes per game would have gotten us close to the playoffs...10th place in the west. Granted it's better to get a good draft choice, but I hate to see the Lakers reduced to the bad news bears.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

If our coach gets fired, Kaman should be re-signed pronto and promised minutes for 2014-15. The guy has a lot of fuel left in the tank. His offensive game is still very smooth and one of the best in the league. I'm not sure whether that is a compliment for Kaman... perhaps it is the sad state of the center position in this league that allows him to pretty much dominate in the post and from mid-range, but whatever. I'd definitely keep him. He can give us at least as much as Pau at this point.

Bring him back to come off the bench.

A Farmar/X/Young/Kelly/Caveman bench would be sick.

Unless he personally gets to kill MDA in the streets in front of Staples I don't see him coming back.
