Assistant coaches Bernie Bickerstaff and Chuck Person have been told they won't be retained by the Lakers.

Looks like they might fill it up with MDA's guys

Mike D'Antoni, who wants smaller staff, has decided not to bring assistants Chuck Person and Bernie Bickerstaff back next season.

I don't want to be rude, but you should read more closely before posting. It does not sound anything like that, and they are not leaving, they are being politely fired.

Kevin Ding @KevinDing
Mike D'Antoni, who wants smaller staff, has decided not to bring assistants Chuck Person and Bernie Bickerstaff back next season.

Mike Bresnahan @Mike_Bresnahan
Dan D'Antoni, Steve Clifford, Darvin Ham and Phil Handy still on Lakers' coaching staff. Alvin Gentry would be logical hire as well.

Yea JVG the guy who couldn't get out of the 1st round with a prime T-Mac and Yao. JVG is good but hes not the right fit for our team, hes in the Mike Brown mold where he has no creativity on offense

So our "Princeton master" Eddie Jordan already gone, Bernie Bickerstaff will leave and could join Cavs, Steve Clifford was interviewing with the Bobcats at the moment and Chuck Person will not be return also.

But don't worry guy ! We still have "offensive genius" Mike D'Antoni and "defensive specialist" Dan D'Antoni as our coaching staffs next season, we should be fine !

I like the fact that D'Antoni wants to get his own guys in there and establish something, but dang, why do we have to let go the best two coaches on staff? Oh well, it is what it is. At least we'll have some consistency going forward.

No worries, MDA has a plan to destroy the Lakers... just like Mike Brown did... I wouldn't be surprised if MDA hired her grandmother as a special shooting assistant coach....

Talented players score...its the other side that matters especially from April to June.

Kurt Rambis @KRambis
#Miami defense is creating offense. #Bulls have 16 turnovers leading to 22 points for #Heat

Maybe this guy can come aboard? And like the players, he'll just tune out MDA.

still having a hard time dealing with MDA getting another year, but I guess I have to.

what if the lakers had just let Bernie finish out the year? probably no difference in how it ended (injuries), but they wouldn't have felt locked into MDA for next year, and they might have a shot at a more logical coaching choice.

person was the last holdover from phil's staff still on the team but i guess not anymore. shocked that jim didn't axe him after 2011 in his complete sabotage of everything phil-related.

hopefully that bald guy gets the bobcats job and they can actually hire some decent assistants like gentry or macmillan. dan tony should also bring in phil weber who was an assistant for him in phoenix and NY, i'm guessing the reason he didn't come to LA was because we already had 15 other assistant coaches

This team needs a Tom Thibs. Anything else is just fodder for 2 or 3 years and then recycled.

Completely agree. The problem is there is nobody out there that I know of that comes as highly regarded as Thibs when he went to Chicago.

Fantastic news...we just fired the best coach on the payroll (BB).

And he wants to downsize his coaching staff? :bang: When you're a no talent hack, you should want all the help you can get. Hell, if I'm MDA I go ask for an extra row of seats for the coaches (like Dallas -- pretty sure they've had nearly 12 coaches on their staff at one time).
