D12 Discussion: Dwightmare over! (1139)

So..... the inaction on the trade Bynum front would seem to mean that Howard doesn't want to be in LA.....or anywhere but Brooklyn. If it were a matter of getting Nash it seems like the deal would be done... If he wanted LA he'd say so publicly..... he's had no issue saying no to a whole lotta places so far and yes to only one....

I'm still of the mind that Howard wants Brooklyn period..... Orlando will have to take what they can get to get any value out of Howard....

All the latest tweets from the likes of Jarrod Rudolph and Alex Kennedy make it seem like Dwight has control over this whole fiasco. He gave that up the moment he opted in last season.

At this point, I feel Howard no longer has leverage and Orlando has to do what's best for Orlando as a franchise and for their fanbase. Rebuilding with (what will be) an overpaid Brook Lopez, Brooks (or an overpaid Humpries), + late 1st round picks as opposed to staying relevant in the East with Bynum? I just took a glance at the Magic forums on RealGM and a majority does not want to rebuild, let alone have Lopez at all.

And at this point, Mitch has nothing to lose and does not need to be the one that blinks first. We get Dwight, awesome. We don't get him, we still have an all-star C in Bynum.

Give up Dwight! :man12:

I think he does too, but Nets have ZERO to offer for him. Orlando is better off letting him walk. Orlando is under no obligation to make Dwight happy.

Pincus (and Woj among others) wrote that the Lakers FO aren't really concerned about Howard not re-signing. They are supposedly very confident on him staying on if he comes here. Their true concern seemed to be Howard's back, but it's still unknown if that's just a negociation tactic from our part or if it's a real thing..

The latest:

http://www.clickorlando.com/news/Magic-reportedly-very-close-to-Howard-trade/-/1637132/15434348/-/g8kxebz/-/index.html

Orlando, FLA. -
Local 6 Sports Director David Pingalore learned Friday night from NBA sources
that the Orlando Magic are "very close" to trading center Dwight Howard.

Pingalore's sources, who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the proceedings, were not ready to name the team that the Magic were trading
Howard to at this time. One source told Pingalore they were "very confident that a deal is close to
being done." The parameters of trades can be discussed now, but they can't become official until Wednesday under NBA rules.

The sources believe that the Brooklyn Nets are out of the mix to land Howard.

The sources could not stress enough that a deal is close to being finalized and that the Magic will meet Howard's
trade request to play elsewhere next season.

Brooklyn had been Howard's first choice from December, when he first asked to be traded. Howard said he will not
sign an extension after this season with any team other than the Nets. The all-star center's preferred destination has been limited to just one team since the trade
request that he reiterated to new Magic GM Rob Hennigan last Friday in Los Angeles.

Pingalore's sources believe that the Los Angeles Lakers are very much in play for Howard. The Lakers reached an agreement for a sign-and-trade deal for two-time MVP point guard Steve Nash on Wednesday. A deal for Howard could result in the Lakers shipping center Andrew Bynum or power forward Pau Gasol to Orlando.

Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant was asked about Howard on Friday during a Team USA media
session in Las Vegas. "I want what's best for him,'' Bryant said. "I want him to do what he
feels is best for him, what's going to make him happy."

Kobe added after being asked about the Lakers recent roster moves, "I don't know
if we're done yet."

Interesting.... it may be a 3 team trade for all we know.... There was some speculation that Chicago could get involved.... and it may be that the Lakers have made the decision to take the huge gamble as well....

We will see if this guy has any credibility soon enough...

Call me ridiculous, but a big reason why I don't want Howard going to Brooklyn and consequently coming here for Bynum is that I don't want him to win after all of this circus. I don't want him to end up where he wanted to. I want him to come here and that the greatness of this franchise and the swag of the city just shocks him and shows him how wrong he was.

I'm not sure that's how players think outside of a handful of them. Greenbacks do more "swagging" than any franchise mystique I'm afraid.... If he came here he'd probably stay because we can pay him more.... unless Adidas makes worth his while to go to a city higher in their marketing plan that is..... then again it's about the lettuce again isn't it?....

Just silly and flat out dumb that the writer would be that because one 1) the Lakers would never give ORL both players especially now that Nash is on our team.

2) We and just about everyone in the known universe knows that we aren't going to get Howard by trading ORL Pau. So why even bring his name up

IMO the only reason Orlando deals him to Brooklyn is if they cave into his demands. Bynum is clearly the best offer on the table for them. So if Howard gets his way he'll end up in Brooklyn. If Orlando put its foot down he'll probably end up here. I just can't imagine Orlando wanting Lopez over Bynum. There's a big difference in talent and potential there. If Howard is a 10 on a rating scale for centers, Bynum is probably an 8.5, and Lopez is maybe a 7. But the thing is Bynum has the potential to reach 10. I doubt Lopez would ever get there.

Yeah but no way Orlando would take Gasol. Not too confident about his credibility after reading that.

Could be a 3 team trade that nets us Howard and pieces along with netting Orlando the picks they want... who knows at this point.... if it were just Bynum for Howard it would have progressed it seems....

Gasol for howard would be a miracle. Three way where LA sends out Pau and Bynum for Howard and pieces could happen.
