D12 Discussion: Dwightmare over! (1139)

They are just mugging D12 with NO play on the ball a lot of the time. What the hell happened with their definition of flagrant???? I don't see how he holds it together and keeps from punching and breaking "Boner's" nose in retaliation for the blatant shoulder and neck assaults. Not to mention the fouls that aren't called. :bang:

I agree. The ref-ing in regards to Dwight has been pretty despicable in this series. Guys are allowed to hang all over him, foul him high with no play on the ball, and have been getting away with contact on his shots down low, too. Then on the other end he's getting way too many offensive fouls called.

I really thought they would clean it up when we got back to LA but last night might have been the worst ref-ing on him in the series.

Given the fact that we're missing our top 4 backcourt players you'd think that the refs wouldn't handicap us further. But they did.

stern to dwight: if you go to houston, we'll give you the harden treatment...just food for thought.

i think this series has been great for dwight's development into a champion. he's been serious and focused on winning the whole time but has had to face obstacle after obstacle.

this is the type of adversity that molds players. the early success dwight had took that valuable experience away from him. being in the east and going deep into the playoffs with such ease created the mentality we saw earlier this season

i think the injury (which is healing great he's been slamming like crazy), the tough season, and now this series where a bunch of seasoned vets are taking advantage of their experience, is only going to lead dwight where i think he can go which is a champion

despite being a joke there isn't a chance in hell stern would ever want that on any level

lakers are his most valuable franchise he needs a big name on it, maybe several.
dwight leaving would destroy the image of the new CBA supposedly keeping superstars on their teams

if anything what's happening in this series is a veteran coach and veteran players realizing that the refs aren't going to give dwight 20-30 free throws in the playoffs so hack the crap out of him and they'll only call some.

and since dwight is known for using his arms and upper back to post fling your heads back sometimes to draw 1 or 2 offensive fouls

I think so too. I remember he got to 16 techs a few years ago, he does complain a lot

Im a little worried HOU might steal Dwight from us

- If they steal this OKC series Dwight might see them as competitive
- We know he thinks they're fun, he admitted it already
- The 1st 4 yrs of his contract apparently he can earn more in HOU than here (something related to taxes)
- Harden/Lin/Parsons young guys with potential they might recruit Dwight
- Darly Morey
- Less pressure...Harden will be there to take pressure off him

Our advantages over them

- Harden is the No.1 guy over there does Dwight want to stand around and be willing to play 2nd fiddle?
- They have 1 2nd round appearance in the last 15 years so our Front office > theirs (although they look more poised for the future than we are)
- Hollywood/Los Angeles

How ironic is it that he was in a better situation in Orlando? Karma is truly a [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] and it's unfortunate it came at the expense of my team.. It is all on Jim to clean the mess he's made.

Forgetting another significant advantage in LA - huge Adidas contract.

if he goes, it wont break my heart...Dwight hasn't shown me jack ish that makes me think 'yea, thats a legit franchise player'

he doesn't have that impact...not even close...he's more like a 'really good' role player instead of a game changer

Nate Robinson has shown more heart in the 4th and these 2 OTs than Dwight has all year

dwight's shown a lot of heart recently, imo. don't know if it was mental or physical early in the season, but he certainly wasn't engaged then. the last couple of months, he's been there.

anyway, i think the lakers will be ok without him; it's just more difficult, and it would involve a total tankjob next year--like san antonio style sit kobe for the entire year type tank job. that's not very laker like. so i hope he stays.

Dwight has shown plenty of heart and fire lately.

I don't think much of his offensive game, his defense however is something you can't ignore now that he's healthier than at the start of the season. I want that on my team any day of the week. He needs to be surrounded by legit outside shooters otherwise he will continue to face double and triple teams which negates his offensive game completely as evident in this Spurs series.

I will agree with most of that, but please keep in mind that Dwight is averaging this while being triple-teamed:

20/12 (with 2.7 blocks on the defensive end).

Dwight is not going to Houston. He may pay less taxes there but we're the only team that can offer him that extra year at 30M. Not to mention his looming Adidas re-up which I believe is around 350M if he's in the LA or NY market when he signs it. He'd probably lose 100M on that deal being in Houston. Beyond that, it seems since Dr. Buss passing Dwight has really bought in to the organization. He sees the jerseys & banners in the rafters, he sees the statues. He also seems to be embracing Kobe pushing him to be great & they're reportedly closer than ever. You also have to factor in that he's still repairing his image from leaving his last team.. Bounce from team to team like that, people will question his loyalty & his image will take another major hit. I haven't even gotten into the guys he can play with here.. I just can't see him leaving.

If this is true Chris Paul and Tim Duncan don't deserve another call until 2030.....

Seriously, Howard doesn't get called both ways. He's always used his elbows quite a bit on the offensive end. He dislodges quite a bit as well. He gets hammered on the defensive end as well.

In last nights game he was fouled pretty hard on a layup in the 3rd quarter.... everyone in the Gameday thread was upset that the foul wasn't called. When they replayed it you could clearly see that he literally shoved Splitter out of the way with two hands in the small of his back right in front of the same ref that didn't call the foul on the shot.....

The way he's going on shooting free throws getting the calls might not actually be a good thing. If he misses a shot because he's fouled and it's not called we have a chance to rebound it and score... when he's at the line the best we can hope for it seems is a score half the time.
