Darius Morris Discussion

I like him and glad that he will be back, he definitely has the tools and potential to be a nice role player.

Downside..... a year of his growth got stunted by sitting on the bench the whole last season, so it won't come this season or maybe not even with this team.

Wow.... I hope this isn't indicative of what's coming this off season...... This guy was horrible and isn't even close to an answer to our point guard problems.......

Who said he was the answer? No one, but he has potential to be a solid backup.

Why do people continually overrate our scrubs and want to trade our best players?

This guy couldn't crack our bench rotation and when he did get on the floor he was so overmatched it was embarrassing......

Come on..... Morris didn't earn one minute this year..... He was a last resort because of injuries and he stunk in 90% of his minutes........ And the ones he didn't were the last minutes of blowouts....

He wouldn't have even been offered a contract on 29 other teams....... That's how bad it is here

Goudelock had a few decent stretches on the offensive end but he too wouldn't be on many other teams in the league either.......

While I'm not a huge fan of Brown......it wasn't his fault these guys don't belong at this level..... Goudelock might be able to stick for another season but if Morris is still around come camp time we will have failed mightily this offseason.....

Should the "Suck Meter" be re-calibrated because he was taken in the second round..... What does where he was taken have to do with how he played?... What does Blake's play have to do with the fact Morris sucked in the majority of the minutes he played?.... You seem to be arguing two unrelated things here.....

I couldn't care less about where he was taken or what kind of "value" he is..... he hasn't shown yet that he belongs at this level in any way shape or form..... to fill a roster spot with him is truly a waste of a money if we are really trying to win a championship.... the money would have been better spent buying a high second round pick last night when there WERE some players left on the board that could help us....

Based on what he did last season..... I just don't see that he can help us in any way..... think of it this way.... if he is getting playing time what kind of team will we have?

^^OK.... is this for real?.... Blake is worse than Morris?.... Let's be realistic here guys..... just because they wear a Laker Jersey doesn't mean that they aren't scrubs....

I don't remember any 20 minute stretch where Morris out played even Blake's worse 20 minute stretch.... He dribbled with head down.... couldn't get to the hoop or around anyone.... wasn't a good passer and other than a few 3 pointers couldn't shoot.... He wasn't even that good on the defensive end most of the time... For a college point guard his ball handling was not that good either....

It's like the lost puppy syndrome with some of these guys..... everyone has a "favorite" end of the bench player that's completely misunderstood and just needs that chance that the "idiot coach" won't give him and he'll be the next surprise that puts us over the top.... Morris, and most likely Goudelock are the latest in a long line of these guys....

All of these guys were..... at the very best..... end of the bench players.... and each has been vastly overrated because of the jersey they wore.... Crittenton, and Wafer had the talent but not the gray matter.... the rest were scrubs that stuck because we were only 7 deep over most of the last decade....

I actually rooted for Javaris, and I think he probably had more talent than the rest of them before he (presumably) murdered someone.

As for the 20 min stretch, Morris did once against Denver late in the season, and once early in the season.

As far as being better than Blake, I really can't compare since I haven't seen him play consistent minutes. All I know is that Blake was maddeningly inconsistent all season after his rib injury, though he did have a few good games in the playoffs. Experience-wise, of course he's the smarter/safer choice to play.

If you've seen enough of Morris to know for sure that he won't be better than Blake with 20-25 mins/game, I can totally respect that. All I'm saying is we give him a chance, but I am open to changing my mind if he doesn't show much in the summer league with ample playing time.

My concern about signing him again is that he didn't show much of anything when out there..... remember we have been comparing his play to that of a 36 year old Fisher and an injured and inconsistent Blake.... and IMO he still didn't look that good. For a college point guard from a decent program he doesn't seem to possess any real point guard skills.... he seems to think he's Russell Westbrook rather than Steve Nash.... With that mentality and his physical skills he's far better off going to Europe because it was plain to see he wasn't skilled enough to play that style in the NBA.

A bigger issue for me is that we are signing him before we have completed our "other work" this offseason.... that may be an indicator that he may actually be in the plans for significant playing time..... that scares me more than just a little....
