Darius Morris Discussion

didn t expected this from him. he kinda surprised me a little. i am no fan of him but i have to say he played good yesterday. if he can do it in regularity that would be good.but we have to see the next couple of games if he is avauable to do it on a constantly base. had some they were good and some they were not so good but all in all he played good and had his best game as a laker by far.

He looked more in control last night. Phil will help him with being level headed I'm sure

Morris had a schizophrenic game. He shot the ball O.K. and had one stretch where he facilitated O.K. as well. They he followed that with a much more "typical" stretch for him of out of control play and some pretty bad play.

I'm still not sure why we aren't seeing Duhon over him. Duhon isn't the best of players but for a veteran team like ours trying to go where we are trying to go it would seem that we would go to a veteran that has started in the league to see if he's got anything left before relying on a player that probably shouldn't even be here.

I've hated on Morris a ton, but his defense was very very good last night. He definitely outplayed Blake too.

I thought he actually played a pretty good game. First time I've seen flashes of some good things out of him.

I don't know if Duhon is his ceiling, but they don't play anything like one another. If Morris can get his S together (and there's some good reason to believe he won't), he could be a nightmare for opposing PGs. And even if he's not anywhere near as quick as THEY are, he's long and strong (...).

I am liking what I see from Darius Morris. All he needs to be is an athletic presence on the floor for us, providing energetic defense on the perimeter, and patiently distributing the rock to his teammates. He is proving that he may in fact be capable of doing just that....I want to see more. I also want to see DJO at some point this season, mainly because I want to have some more athletic options at the PG so we can use fouls to defend guys like Westbrook, Parker, etc...I wonder what Phil can do with Duhon??? Very interesting to see things develop going forward...

Imagine how much further along Ebanks and Morris would be if we had played them for consistent stretches during last season

I know a lot of people are ready to write this guy off. However during the summer league he got better with each game while Goudlock did nothing. Morris was clearly not ready for the NBA and most scouts said as much. Watching the last game you can see he has some tools but his real issue is between the ears. He simply hasn't learned to be a point guard yet. I agreed with the team keeping him over Goudlock for this reason. Players that show improvement are going the right direction. Players that level off are what you are getting. With Goudlock that was an undersized SG with no handle.

He kind of fits Phil's "big triangle guard" prototype quite well actually. The only problem is what's between the ears. It would depend on how much patience Phil has to put up with his mistakes. If you can get Morris to buy into a perimeter spacer role...it might work. He'd have to prove he can shoot though.

PG in the triangle would require that you can shoot. I don't think Morris can shoot consistent enough to get any PT. He will need to impress on the defensive end to get any burn. On offense, he'll just dribble down, and pass the ball to the post, and get out of the way.

Hmmm. Meeks may see time as a tri pg.

PJ almost certainly plays Duhon. Duhon does the things you're supposed to do in the triangle as an initiator.

PJ almost certainly DOESN'T play Meeks as initiator in the triangle. Blake or Duhon will do that. Meeks is a great off-guard int he triangle though, and I can't imagine PJ simply sits him.

Phil will have Mitch waive/release DJO and Morris. They have no time to coach these guys. they are trying to win a title. Morris can play D and move is feet, which has value. But no way I see Phil giving him burn against good teams. Phil will want Livingston and Fish brought in for those two.
