Devin Ebanks Discussion (Not Returning For 13-14)

From Twitter

Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
Mike Brown says he'll start Devin Ebanks on Sunday at SF, and most likely Josh McRoberts at PF. Gasol to C in Bynum absence.

Mike Trudell @LakersReporter
It was a close race between Ebanks & Matt Barnes to start at 3, but Brown thought Ebanks earned it in preseason minutes.

alas, the Devin Ebanks era has begun :jam2:
"After slamming in an alley-oop as the Suns center(Amare Stoudemire) clung helplessly to his arm, Bynum hopped around like he was on a pogo stick, grinning and nodding in a 'Who’s the man-child now?' sort of way" -Chris Broussard of espn.

Wow! So excited for this kid. This would've never happened under Phil. He'd stick to his vets no matter what. In fact if Phil were still coach, Ron Artest (MWP) would most likely be starting. Here's to hoping Ebanks makes the most of his opportunity.

He definitely earned the spot with his preseason showcase. It will be interesting to see how Barnes and Artest will do coming off the bench on Sunday, if they play up to their capabilities they'll definitely provide a spark off the bench.

Really excited and interested to see this.

He really looked good in the limited time he got during preseason.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

KEVIN DING @KevinDing
Ebanks has been awesome in camp, not just on D but creating and hitting his own shots, even when he plays on the pink (third) team. ...

He's gotta be some kind of pumped right now.

We need a nickname for the kid.

High praise from Kobe.

KEVIN DING @KevinDing
Kobe rated Ebanks' offensive skill set as better than Ariza's. RT @KyleStack: @KevinDing Fair to say he could do lot of what Ariza did/does?

Hells to the yes! I know you and had a back and forth earlier about Brown, Doberman, but I will say that so far I'm really enjoying Mike Brown's willingness to shake it up and go with what works. I haven't loved the offense thus far but obviously it's going to be a work in progress for some time. I am pleasantly surprised though so far from Brown and for the most part I like what I see in his coaching.

Stoked about Ebanks starting and I hope he continues to do well and holds the job down. I dislike the lack of energy and effectiveness from Barnes that he's shown.

No. Need to send fisher to the bench. Put Blake Instead of fisher then our starting lineup is scary.

Blake/ Kobe/ Ebanks/ Gasol/ Bynum

I hope the kid does well I really do, rooting for him big-time. I like seeing this sort of thing though, you play hard and earn a spot you get it. Loved Phil and you cannot argue with his results, but for a change it is nice to see a sophomore player earn a starting spot based on his play, not tossed to the bench just because he's younger and somebody else has been in the league longer. If he earned the spot he earned the spot. Obviously he is young though and he's not expected to be a star, but I think he could be a very solid starter for us, hope it works out.

Seeing what we saw of Devin and hearing these praises, I'm wondering if Caracter saw any improvement before his injury. Of the two, Ebanks seemed like the one who'd have an easier transition into the NBA and that appears to be the case, but Derrick still showed a decent amount of potential as well.

Well deserved. He put in a lot of work in the offseason and it showed in preseason games compared to Barnes and Peace. Really rooting for him this year.

My god we're thin.. People easily overlook that Odom can practically play 4 positions, 3 of them on a nightly and dependent on who's injured basis.. It was such a relief knowing that your 6th man could fill in for your 5, 4 and 3 position players on a dime, and could be a legit starter at those positions as well.

I'm still not over this odom thing.. odom for peanuts, ugh. Maybe an xmas day win will cheer me up.
