That is so true, I was just reading a post by a Spurs fan stating that he didn't mind if the Lakers won this year because Kobe has shown he can only win on a loaded team. :man3:

Without Kobe this team struggles to make the playoffs. So that assertion is deluded at best, downright awe inspiring stupidity at worst.

The Lakers wouldn't struggle to make the play-offs without Kobe.

They'd probably be a low seed, but they would make it. I think with Pau, Bynum, Fish and Lamar, plus Phil and our young bench, we should have enough.

Fortunately, Duncan can win without help ;)

Nobody wins without help. The closest in recent years was probably the Rockets win over NY Knicks. I couldn't even guess who the second leading scorer was for Houston but that was an ugly series anyways. Kobe drug a very thin team to the playoffs for a couple of years but wasn't going to win anything without help (see Paul Pierce before KG/Allen). MJ needed Pippen and either Grant or Rodman plus a shooter every year. Shaq needed Kobe or Wade. Duncan had Robinson or Parker/Ginobli. The Pistons championship was a very balanced team. Funny thing with this Laker team. Gasol was an all-star 1 time. Lamar...nada. Fish...nope. Bynum not yet. Most championship teams have multiple all-stars. Take Kobe off this team they would struggle. Probably be more like the Grizzly teams that Gasol played for. Tough team lower seeding out first round. Kobe is the only real go to player and guy who can get his own.

No with the awesome talent on this team, they could make it to the 5-6 seed.

Now seriously, Imagine yourself a Mavs fan tonight....and having to watch Kobe stick those daggers in late 4th quarter...and not to mention the numerous other times he's done it to the Mavs in the past....I'd be on p'd off fan too.

Oh so glad 24 is in P&G.

its a lil irritating that we didnt triple team Kobe in more i mean might as well make his teammates take long semi-contested shots late in the shot clock like they did us but hey it is what it is
I actually dont believe there is a HUGE gap between us and them and hopefully the guys in the maverick locker rooms believe they can beat LA as well
The big difference is we need Dirk to cancel out Kobe
Dirk never takes over in any point in time during a game against the lakers if he does its in the 1st quarter or somethin

good luck with that

Did anyone really expect us to beat the Lakers with Howard (our 2nd best scorer, 2nd best rebounder & best wing defender) out and Dirk + Diop + Damp (our 1st, 3rd and 5th best rebounders) combine for 21 pts, 19 reb?

LA = 45 rebounds
Dal = 36 rebounds

Howard was definatley missed in this game.

Lakers are just too good for the Mavs. Maybe Josh makes a difference maybe not but I would like to find out.

Well, they have to keep hope alive somehow. :man10:

This year is their last to accomplish anything before they start going downhill.

Raptors/Lakers gameday in realgm. The game is tomorrow night

Try to keep it close boys........................I say it's the biggest complishment in franchise history if they can lose by less than 20.

I'd be surprised if we don't get blown out.

I'd love to be more optimistic, but I can't.

We should tank the 1st quarter so Bosh can get some rest without admitting failure

If Detroit did it, we can do it, right?

I seriously think that we have a chance if we play good D, but we can't play good D... anyways Go Raps

This is a guaranteed loss.

ugh we're gonna get destroyed

All I am asking is....please don't get blow out by the Lakers. Our percentage of winning this game is almost zero. I am sorry, but clearly they are in another game level than us. A much higher level.

I will not watch this game live to avoid any chance of being heart attack. LA will expose all our weakness in this game.

We're probably gonna lose, but you never know, Bosh is arguably the best player in the league right now, he could easily drop 50 on the Lakers soft interior if Bynum is out.

82 this time

It really is unfair how stacked the Lakers are...

If this game is even close, it should be considered a (moral) victory for the Raps. I think we have the tools to limit Gasol's game, but If JO is still out, Bynum could be a problem in the paint, offensively and defensively. Besides, even if it is close Kobe will just turn it on in the fourth and pull it away. Knowing Smitch, Kapono will be guarding him most of the game.

We win by 3 after Kobe misses the game-tying shot, game marks a significant season shift in momentum, Raptors cruise towards 48 wins. Book it!

^ I like the last one atleast that guy wants to believe
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I'm surprised raps fans think it's gonna be a blowout. I think their front court duo will be a good test for our offense. We better close out on shooters because they have snipers on their team. My prediction is that our 2nd unit wins this game for us by torching their bench. Especially that sexy LO, bynum, ariza, farmar and sasha lineup we had last night. I'm guessing a good game from kobe too.

Too much Kobe indeed... he's going to score 81 again and tell Bosh, "Chris, You ain't gon be MVP, I'm going for a repeat.." and Chris breaks down and cries, Sam calls a Timeout and Chris sits away for his team-mates thus bringing media speculation that he's going to sign with the Lakers in 2010.

I can't see us winning this game at all.
We need an absolute EPIC performance from our perimeter guys to pull this one off.

I would say let Kobe get his, and just shut down everyone else... but we all know first hand how that turned out when we tried it a couple years ago lolol.

If we win this one I'll run around the block wearing nothing but a smile and a Raptors Toque.

When the game is close, they call open the black mamba.
Witness what he did to Dallas last night...

It'd be smart to sit our starters for this game. Obviously Raps won't win and it'll help for the game after.

And a gem from realgm:
the chances we beat the Lakers in LA are very slim to none. This is one of those games where you are facing Goliath, except theres no magic sling shot or rock thats going to save us, and Goliath is about to get medieval on your azz . Lets just say Raptors against Lakers in LA will probably look a lot worse than a prison shower scene in OZ.
