Dwight: Lakers' Turnaround 'Starts With Me'

Dwight Howard took accountability for his role in the Los Angeles Lakers' struggles on Wednesday.

"I think this will be the start of a new season tonight," said Howard. "Our effort and energy will be better. It starts with me."

The Lakers play at the Memphis Grizzlies and have lost three straight.

Howard also apologized for his comments about his lack of shot attempts.

Howard said he needs to be "more of a player out there on the court and not worry about anything, not complain."

Hmmmm, OK. Now Dwight please show this on court :jam2:

Yeah it reads exactly how one of those "athlete's statements" usually reads. Completely off the cuff and his own thoughts. Already worried about his PR.

Dwight and his PR guy (agent) really need to start chatting BEFORE he gets back to the locker room after each game, and BEFORE he meets with reporters. It would make it easier on Dwight not having to backtrack after every stupid comment he makes to his teammates and reporters. Can't expect to play well when one foot is always in your mouth.

He talks a good game with his "we just gotta believe and work together" up until the moment he talks about his lack of touches and blaming his teammates for their defensive rotations. This guy is a piece of work. But then again, we knew what we were getting when he told Orlando's management he wanted Stan fired then lied about it minutes later.

Alright, so... Nash and D'Antoni started their season already. Dwight will do it tonight. I assume Kobe will join once he sees they are truly motivated.

However, that might not be enough, because Pau+the Bench will start their season in October 2013, playing for a different team.

Right on the money. We shouldn't be surprised. He flip-flops. I wouldn't be surprised if he left L.A. in the least...

BTW, if the Lakers restart their season few more times -- they might even end up with a winning record in one of them. Which is great.

Dwight should just start doing this:

"Both teams played hard, my man."

Easy, and you don't need a PR guy.

That was last season though. Tonight is the new season. We'll see how that rhetoric works this next season... :bang:

ZenMaster4President wrote:Ah... the difference in offensive games of Bynum and Dwight...

I know one is not playing... just saying that there were people who claimed that the difference is not that big and the difference on defense more than makes up for it.

I think those people has been proven wrong.

As were those that were pointing at "attitude problems" as part of Bynum's baggage. Well, Dwight has got them in spades as well.

IF Andrew was still playing, we'd be loosing the trade badly. And even with that - the fact that Dwight might bolt and this season may be over... we may still eventually come up as the biggest losers.

Shaq was right. Dwight is no superman.

a hundred percent agree, if bynum was still on this team (he might of not gone bowling) we wouldnt be 3 teams below the 8th seed let alone under .500.

although bynum was selfish and wanted the ball down the block, he can atleast score in the post consistently.

dwight misses the rim completely, let alone getting stripped because of his inability to fake left or right, or pump. its completely useless if he backs down his defender all the way into the paint wastes all those precious seconds on the 24 clock, and miss completely

call me crazy, but i never really wanted dwight, i mean if we get him great and i was excited. but i never lacked his lack of offensive game at all.

it amazes me how he wants it in the post when thats not his strength, to me thats the same thing as bynum wanting to shoot spot up 3 pointers

wouldn't all of this D12 drama be over and the focus just be on winning if D12 came out and said ' yes i am a free agent after the season but i 100% plan on signing a max deal extension to stay here in LA with the Lakers.'
now by that not being said does it mean he actually does have reservation on staying? i say yes. He must want the recruitment feeling again and do the Lebron free agency tour. Let him do it and call his bluff. Do not trade him.

Maybe... but at this point It would be a toss up of what I would want more...... a Bynum 3 or a Howard post touch...... :man9:

The players are vastly different but the results of those two things are way too similar for my liking.....

We can play the "if" game with Bynum, but the fact remains the dude hasn't played a game all season. We can be upset that Howard has spent the last two games pouting, but the majority of the season he's worked hard. Has he lived up to expectations? No. But obviously having him on the team is better than having Bynum's injury saddling us all season long.

Let's be real with that please.

Was listening to 710 earlier, thought Ireland made some good points about Dwight. He talked about how passive aggressive is Dwight's thing, did it in Orlando, tiptoed around what he wanted there but never came out and said it. He also pointed out how this is another coach that doesn't work with Dwight or that has "lost Dwight", said if you build around him what's the guarantee he doesn't clash with the next coach too. Ireland also said Dwight wants to be THE guy, not one of 2 or 3 number one guys, lot of concessions to make for a guy that has done noting to warrant all the demands Ireland also said. I agreed with pretty much all he said, I'd move on and trade him for Love if I could.
