The Houston Rockets are determined to trade forward Thomas Robinson – the fifth pick in the 2012 NBA draft – to create salary-cap space for the pursuit of Los Angeles Lakers' free-agent superstar Dwight Howard, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Yahoo! Sports

Houston is competing mainly with Dallas – and possibly Golden State – to lure Howard once free agency commences on July 1. Howard has become increasingly intrigued with the Rockets as a possible destination, sources said. Houston's supporting cast, including James Harden and Chandler Parsons, is one of the reasons. Yahoo! Sports

The Rockets are targeting teams with the cap space to absorb Robinson's contract. The Rockets are trying to cobble together a package that could include assets such as a trade exception, a draft pick or non-guaranteed contracts that they can be unloaded, sources said. Yahoo! Sports

This is some great new information. Maybe Dwight leaves for the greener pastures of the great houston. Awesomeness

this is the first bit of actually useful news, if true. Houston wouldn't shop robinson hard unless they knew they had a great shot at howard, which had to come from his people. not a good sign for la. again, if true. we don't know how hard they're shopping him, nor whether this would be a contingency type deal (IF howard chooses us, we'll give you robinson for a future first).

if i'm Houston's trading partner right now, though, i'm driving a hard bargain. add a pick and get a second rounder in return. they're sort of over a barrel, as they need to clear some cash to make a max offer for Dwight. the question is whether some dumb gm will bail them out (like minny did for Miami), or whether everyone will force Houston to pay a tax for unloading salary while poaching a superstar.

^I don't know if it means they know he is going to get him though. They could be doing the same thing CUban did by making the big gamble for a potential #1 option. Howard could very well have his camp telling them he is really interested but that is still only speculation. Will Houston really make the move if D12 isn't a 100% coming?

your kidding me right?

That package is garbage. Parson is the only real nice piece to build around in that deal.

I have a better idea: we re-sign Dwight.
