I disagree with that appraisal.

I'll soften this a bit - I'll just say that I think that's too easy a take on the situation. It's not like he played out of his mind because he was involved. He was very active tonight, and the Lakers looked to get him involved. Not sure that one was directly and solely responsible for the other.

i get your point but lets just say D12 is more likely to play harder if he is getting involved on the offensive end. He is no different than any other big in the history of the game an by that history has proven when bigs get touches they are more active on defense and on the offensive boards. it is no excuse because imo whether you get touches or not you should bust your butt on defense and that goes for every player.

@twcsportsnet

Lakers are 22-6 (79%) when Dwight Howard gets at least 20 pts.

Translates to almost a 57 win season.

Curious to see what the Lakers record is when Dwight gets at least doublie-digit figures in FGA.

Now I understand why this guy is 3 times DPOY. He's an absolute monster when he's focused and active.

Can't ask for more than that, the boards, the blocks, scoring down low like you want from your center, the all around energy and constant activity, great game.

I'm not trying to start an Bynum vs. Howard debate here but that is one thing that Howard does a lot better in and something I always wanted Drew to do more of which was dunk that basketball whenever you can. Shaq was the best at this. When ever he was close to the basket he would do whatever it takes to dunk it has hard has he could.

Howard despite dunks it or tries to dunk it a lot more often than Drew did.

I see no point(s) that would start a debate here, should be fine. It may be because D12's still not 100%, but I saw quite a bit of lay-ups and just flipping the shot up there when he was within 2-3 feet of the basket. Of course, the downside to maybe Howard dunking is that he might take just a second too long to gather down low increasing the probability of getting stripped.

Considering we are 22-6 when Dwight scores 20 or more and 26-11 when Dwight gets double digit FGA it's safe to say only Kobe and Dwight should have the ball. Everyone else should mind their role

great effort by Dwight last night. His energy is contagious on defense. He moves on offense the guys are finding him. Monster game by the young fella
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

cousins is such an idiot i love it. even IF the ref called the foul on dwight on that last play cousins foot was inside the 3 point line so it would have only been 2 FT's. not even enough to tie the game. thank god hes on the kings. good play by dwight though jumping kinda straight but at least blocking it so no 3 point play

:man10: I hardly think so.

BTW I really think Dwight is going to be extra motivated that night to show that he maybe one day be that dominant force that shaq was for the Lakers

^ Well said Dwight. He's definitely more comfortable with that question and is maturing.

Dwight played magnificent defense last game. Hopefully he continues with the same intensity. He's the guy as far as leading us to the playoffs. Everyone else is banged up - Nash, Kobe, Pau, and MWP (out, period). We have to follow his lead.

since i like dwight tea leaf reading:

i like that he highlighted shaq's slow start with the lakers. it's not as disastrous as dwight's start (obviously a different situation, too), but the fact that he's drawing that parallel is a good thing, imo. shows that he's still positive about the prospect of things working out here long term.

Agreed.

I thought that was a big thing. I'm hopeful that he and Shaq bury the hatchet eventually just like Shaq has been doing with basically everyone (including us, which has been his biggest misstep).

Even 9 years into the League Dwight could learn a lot about positioning from Shaq. No, Dwight isn't as big as Shaq, but comparatively to the League he can have a similar impact. Many times when deep, Shaq would use that explosive speed to just dunk before anyone could get to the ball. Against smaller opponents (and given health), Dwight could do that too.

Dwight is going to be coming out with a mission tonight I can feel it. With Shaq ceremony at hafltime I think that's going to motivate him to come out and showcase what he can do.

He was clutcher from the line than Dirk :man9:

Made some good moves, played good D, rebounded well. Good game.
