PRP is short for "platelet rich plasma." Howard will first have some of his own blood removed and spun in a centrifuge.

The resulting plasma, which contains a high dose of Howard's own platelets to promote healing, will be injected into his shoulder. <--- What Dwight will have done ..

http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-dwight-howard-shoulder-procedure-prp-20130201,0,5938221.story

The Lakers announced on Friday that Dwight Howard will travel back to Los Angeles on Friday to undergo a "PRP procedure" on Saturday.

PRP is short for "platelet rich plasma." Howard will first have some of his own blood removed and spun in a centrifuge.

The resulting plasma, which contains a high dose of Howard's own platelets to promote healing, will be injected into his shoulder.

Howard will miss the Lakers' visit to the Minnesota Timberwolves but will fly out to rejoin the team in Detroit.

There's a short recovery time after the nonsurgical PRP procedure. It's unclear if Howard will be ready to play against the Pistons on Sunday.

Pau Gasol will start in Howard's place against the Timberwolves, backed up at center by Metta World Peace and rookie Robert Sacre.

The Lakers have lost eight straight road games and will play their next six away from Staples Center.

^^

No reason to use Metta when you have one Star Starter and the RoTY Robert Sacre.

^MWP does a great job on Zack.... Not too crazy. Marc will kill him though
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Something is amiss.

Pau is listed at 275.

Pek is listed at 281.

Pek is probably around 290 right now. There's no way Pau's weight is 275. 255-260 is more likely.

Basically, Nikola is 2 inches shorter, at least 30 lbs heavier, and much stronger.

Still don't get it. If Pek is all muscle, the he should weigh alot more than Pau. But he doesn't. Only 6 pounds?

If Pek is fat, then he should weigh less than Pau. Which he doesn't.

revgen wrote:Knees are much simpler mechanisms than spines. People who start suffering back injuries rarely ever feel the same as they did before.

IMO, D12's inability to lift weights like he used to is compromising other parts of his body. Notably his shoulders. If D12 muscles in his arms were as toned and defined as they were before the back problems started, he perhaps wouldn't have suffered a torn labrum.

i agree, though he wasnt able to lift because he was rehabbing. though this offseason he'll likely be rehabbing again, but if he wasn't he'd be able to do most lifts. not sure about deadlifts though i'm not even sure if he was doing them pre-injury

so far this is dwights only back injury, while that doesn't lessen the severity of a back injury it also gives a larger possibility of full recover, though it also increases likelihood of re-injury. so that is all going to be wait and see.

but this season he is smaller, that's effected a lot. can't get as deep of post position and then his explosion isn't the same (and won't be until he at least has an offseason to lift and run)

the plus about shoulder surgery is it won't prevent leg work to an extent like the back did. lamar was usually somewhat ok the next season.

i'm guessing dwight can avoid surgery. not sure what the implications are, but i'm sure he can't build the shoulders the same way with a torn labrum not healing correctly

Ooh, swing and a miss.

Also, why is Pau's weight being discussed in the Dwight Howard thread? Maybe take it to the Pau thread?
