Dwight Discussion: Griffin for Dwight?... Naaaa (1011)

Dwight is who he is..Laker fans shouldn't have expected he's suddenly going to start making his freethrows. While it is very very very frustrating to see him struggle at the line, he's an anchor on D. He's only going to get better in shape as the season goes on..hopefully before its all too late.

But with that said, he really needs to start dominating on O for us to have a chance to close out games, he can't be throwing these weak little hooks when he doesn't even have the right mechanics. I just want him to throw it down and poster people once he gets an offensive rebound.

I've noticed this too, Dwight doesn't seem to set a lot of well timed, solid screens. What's the point if you don't pick the man? What's the point in not doing them correctly?

I can understand doing this on occasion, but I really have no idea why he seems to do it every single possession. The only thing I can think of is that he's afraid of picking up fouls.

Anyway, I thought Dwight was solid for us out there. He made a huge impact defensively.

Set a damn proper screen. I noticed he just slips without even MAKING CONTACT. not gonna get a good angle from the pass or the pass alone.

D12 just had 7 shots. As the best center in the league, 17 shots should be more reasonable. I blame this on MDA. He is not using D12 well.

I think he slips the screens so often to avoid foul trouble.. That's the only thing that would make sense to me.

We really don't have a young Kobe to bail us out. Dwight needs to make his free throws unlike Shaquille who had that luxury

WOW... You actually didn't blame Kobe. WOW. It happened.

The Heat's trapping of the ball had more to do with that..... oh well this is still a huge thing. It wasn't Kobe's fault.

Phil Jackson would be getting better use out of D12 and Gasol. No doubt about it.

Dude had 13 FT attempts and 2 assists, the touches are already there... You do know a shot attempt is not recorded when you are fouled, right?

17 shots/game for Dwight, I can't even do that in NBA2k...

He would.. I admit I thought having MDA get the most out of Nash would be better for us, because I thought Dwight was good enough to get his no matter what, & Pau is a lost cause. But no doubt we'd be better off with Phil. Dwight would have the offense ran through him & be lead by a coach he has no choice but to respect. I'd take Nash not being used right in the triangle if it meant us playing inside out. We look so dominant when Dwight has great games.

And the fouls that were called on the floor, which resulted in no shots.

No point even arguing with Odom1year, half the time he doesn't watch any of the games and has no idea what is going on.

This is the best kind of foul on Howard..... otherwise it's .5 turnovers on average..... and an entire turnover with an airball on top down the stretch......

that is the type of screen MDA is asking him to make... Dwight mentioned it earlier in the year. That's exactly how Amare did it.

He set screens like that all the time in Orlando actually. He sets a fake screen, the defender reacts to it, it gives the offensive player the angle, the opposing Center now has to step out and Dwight is open for the lob.

That worked all day in Orlando, it doesn't work here. Nash isn't as quick as Nelson, Howard isn't as explosive as he used to be, and we don't have 3 shooters on the floor at all times to keep teams from collapsing.

Yeah, count me in as one who doesn't totally get that. I can understand doing the slip screen some of the time for quicker cuts to the basket. But last night that wasn't working at all. Miami was double covering Nash high when he had the ball. If you want him to get free you better set a real screen on one of the guys. We never adjusted to that double coverage either. Someone needed to come out and either screen high and hard or a smaller guy needed to come out and get closer to Nash for the pass. We saw the same thing over and over for both sides and the bottom line is that Miami's defense was better than our offense especially down the stretch. They got the stops they needed.

This is what I was worried about when we got Howard. The specifics of his success in Orlando are not present here. He's doing the best he can but the pieces just aren't here to have the flow he is used to having.

But he's still effective right now and I think he can still be effective, we just have to adjust. We can't stand around on the pick and roll, make cuts to the basket. It's almost that simple. With Clark in the lineup, that's why he's effective. When shots go up, he's attacking the glass aggressively.

Gasol on the other hand is already back pedalling.

Screens were a pb ... Nash not giving up the ball quickly was another one ... you have to give up the ball as soon as the trap is coming then you can exploit 3 on 2 or 4 on 3 situations ...

Nash wanted to beat the PNR hedge by the dribble ... Miami hedges it so hard , you can't do it , especially with a slow PG like Nash ...

Well, to be fair, if you're the BEST center in the league, then there is no reason he couldn't get 17 shots per game. Shaq averaged 17 FGA or more for a season 10 times. If D12 wants to get there, he better develop a post game NOW.

Having said that, I'm not sure 17 shots is really the right number for Dwight, but 7 certainly is not regardless of whether he takes 13 FT attempts.

In general, I don't think Dwight gets the ball enough and this was well below his average as a Laker. Overall, Dwight has been underutilized this much since he was just old enough to drink.

He honestly gets enough touches. He misses free throws and turns it over too much. As it stands, he can't be the #1 scoring option on any great offensive team. Kobe and Nash are much better offensive players than he is.

If Dwight leave us as free agent, i think we are starting our rebuilding process after next season.
Just think about it....
Kobe and Pau have just one more year on contract, and they can't do some serious damage, we can't eveng get to playoffs with Dwight, imagine what it would be like without him.
It's all about Dwight now......
