I agree. I don't think they're purposely not giving it to him or anything, but the timing certainly does seem off. Blake or Meeks will most of the time not even look down there and that really should be their first look. Look inside first, even if it's to help run the action, then go into your play if the pass isn't there.

Big props to him for his defensive effort.

I hear ya, but I think this had more to do with how much collapsing zone Minny played last night. We just kept launching wide open J's over the D and hit a lot of them.

I was ecstatic to see Dwight not get frustrated by this and continue to keep his energy on D & the glass up. Exactly what we need to see from him. I'm proud of the guy.

Keep it up, Dwight! :jam2:

Oh I'm with you. I can tell he's not exactly jumping for joy right now, but he's still working his tail off and that means a lot to me. There was a time when I wasn't sure he wanted to be a Laker. Now I'm quite positive he does. He's earning my respect and hopefully the respect of Laker fans everywhere.

Didnt the Wolves zone us up all night, its hard to get the ball inside and besides we were knocking down 3 ball after 3 ball, Dwight had 2 turnovers trying to get the ball inside, 2 missed free throws and 2 offensive fouls. We did look to him quite a bit but he could've done a better job of going to open spaces instead of just sitting under the rim

SVG used to run some screens close to the basket to get him open and in good position. MDA doesn't do this since he thinks of bigs as rebounding / garbage scorers. In all fairness though, most coaches don't do that for their bigs.

^ We do run a screen with him close to the basket. We run it with Kobe all the time setting the screen and the PG throwing the ball in the post.

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/01/once-again-lakers-gm-kupchak-defends-dwight-howard/

“I think he should get more credit for the reality of what has taken place,” Kupchak said. “Here’s a guy who didn’t have to come back. Forget whatever he needs (because of) this summer as a free agent, because doctors are going to say that after a year you’re going to be fine. But he came back because after a year he wanted to play and he wanted to win. And then he’s also had the torn labrum (in his right shoulder). I just thought he was getting unfairly criticized….

“I was surprised that he went through training camp and didn’t miss a practice,” Kupchak said. “I thought that maybe he would do some things on a side basket, and then he’d get in condition and we would maybe see him in December or January. I was surprised. I’m not sure he came back too early, but I think people expected too much, too soon.”

I'm surprised at how much the FO is trying to defend D12 in the media. I' can't recall a star player on the Lakers receiving so much PR protection. Not Kobe. Not Shaq. Not Pau. Not Bynum. Certainly not Kareem.

I don't see why they are so scared.

Unless CP3 and D12 have cooked up a secret plan to join Horford in Atlanta, I don't see him going anywhere.

During the last game on TNT, there was discussion of Howard's FTs...he wasn't able to get off the practice court until he hit 100 FTs. It took him 117 shots. That's 85%.

His form has looked much better. The Denver game set him back but I really think a lot of that was fatigue. He has a much better arc on the shot and he is closer to making them now than missing them. Still a long way to go but I think he is on the right track finally
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I heard mention of him shooting a crazy high FT percentage during practice even before the season started, so that TNT report from Sager wasnt much of a surprise. I was optimistic at the start of the season, but not any more.

Not many players have faced the criticism coupled with his type of personality. Shaq had a similar personality in that he needed to be coddled. However shaq performed at his level from day 1 and was pretty much the apple of LAs eye from day 1

Kobe faced and still faces a ton of criticism difference is he really doesn't care

Dwight on the other hand does, and he hasn't performed at his level and therefore the criticism is flying in and the lakers are trying to support who they consider their future.

He's a mental midget. Can't make them in games.

i don't think it's entirely that. he's not a jump shooter so the only shots he takes are free throws. that's what once every 5 minutes. the best FT shooting big men are jumpshooting big men.

even bynum who had a decent FT stroke only shot 69%. remember when kobe was trying to be a PG and his jump shooting went down the toilet. shooting consistently throughout the game keeps you in rhythm. basketball is largely a rhythm sport. that's why if he shoots 100 he makes so many because he's in rhythm but when he shoots 10 throughout a 36 minutes which means he's shooting about once every 7 minutes it's different. there is no rhythm.

the best free throw shooting bigs. like lamarcus aldridge, dirk, pau in his prime, duncan, these guys are shooting jumpers all game from the elbow area.

just my take as to why guys like wilt, shaq, dwight can't hit free throws. it's not for lack of practice, and shaq had no mental toughness issues so my take is they just aren't in rhythm.
