But could you make the idea of:

Work out in some way?

Could you sign and trade the Sasha Exception and Shannon for decent Center? Could you get a center of decent skills with Paul or Iggy?

Could you get a PF instead of a C and HAVE to force Pau to play center?

Seems like, though not a good idea, could be worked out in a nice way that makes it all ok now and later.

I'd prefer Bynum for Dwight too, but who knows.....Mitch might see something differently and Brown.

And Brown did get James and scrubs to the Finals once.

Could a good center or power forward be getting cut in the amnesty that we could steal?

Indeed, you do not trade one of the leagues best centers for a PG, no matter how good. It doesn't solve your issues, it just makes new ones. I trade Bynum for Dwight, but not CP, unless we already have a solid backup center in the plan to take his place, because if you do then yes CP, Kobe and Pau is a good trio.

I don't understand why Bynum would want his own team. Yes, I understand that he would get more touches and his stats would increase, but unless you are going to have your own team in Chicago, Boston, or New York, why would you want to leave the Lakers? They have only missed the playoffs once since the 1996-1997 season. It doesn't get much better than that.

Bynum for Paul!? A real center in today's NBA is much more valuable than a point guard.... especially a overrated, often injured one with a degenerative knee. I don't think the salaries match either so we would have to send out more than just Bynum to get this done which makes this even worse.

If we are trading Bynum it should upgrade the team and this wouldn't be an upgrade at all..... Straight up for Howard is an upgrade (although not as much as some think). With someone else for Howard isn't an upgrade either.

If Bynum really feels that way get him out asap. No point of having a disgruntled Bynum on the team (even if he is quiet about it) and his value is high.

I would give Kuchak more credit for trading Walton then Howard

I would be disgruntled too. Andrew is arguable the second best player at his position in the NBA. How many other second bests are in trade rumors ever few weeks? I see the same fire in him as Kobe has. He and Artest were the only one on our entire team last year that showed any emotion after losing to Dallas. I want that on my team.... not a bunch of shoulder shrugging regular season players......

By comparison.... every year Orlando exits from the playoffs you see a smiling Howard shrugging his shoulders at the podium explaining away his teams failures again and again.....

well Howard lets his game do all the talking, 30/20 games left and right....he doesn't need to explain anything they should ask his teammates....Put Bynum in his spot and see what he does, probably try and deck Teagues as he's penetrating the paint.

He lives to win and just bc he was disgruntled it didn't affect his play at all. Bynum is a kid, complains a lot, and will likely disappear on a regular basis if he's not happy. Like I said in LG I don't buy the Drew rumors yet that he wants his own team, I've got to hear it from the horses mouth first.

I understand what you are saying, but at the same time a disgruntled leader of the team is far more disruptive than a disgruntled 3rd option. To date Bynum hasn't named any teammates..... Kobe did... I'll bet everyone is happy we still have Bynum and not Jason Kid right about now as well......

Bynum's disappearances have a lot of reasons that are beyond his control that may lead to his unhappiness. Shannon Brown is one that comes to mind......

In the end if Bynum must go.... I hope it is in a deal that really helps the team rather than just getting another marquis name to market..... Bynum for Howard straight up doesn't work salary wise so we have to include someone else.... this is what I don't like. We only have two or three tradable assets and to send two out for a position we are strong at and not strengthen our weaknesses is a dangerous thing to do with the looming CBA and its punitive restriction on teams over the cap. We only have this and next year to solidify our chances for the next 10 years..... so I hope they do the right thing......

The Lakers and Hornets talked several days ago, league sources told Yahoo! Sports, but the sides were left unclear with what it would take to get a deal done involving Chris Paul. The two teams are expected to talk again this week, say sources.

The idea of Pau Gasol being the primary player going to the Hornets won't be acceptable, according to sources.

But the Lakers will ultimately allow the Hornets to pick between Gasol and Andre Bynum.

i hope Orlando bites. Bynum is a time bomb, and the sooner we get rid of him the better. he can ball hog all he wants winning 20 games a year in Orlando for all i care, but we need a player who wants to be a Laker(Dwight).

from what i heard though, most Magic fans want nothing to do with Bynum(they hate his attitude, and injury history). they would rather do the Brook Lopez trade(worse player, but better contract, and less injury prone). All the Magic fans say if they trade Dwight they want to go into full rebuild mode. Bynum and Odom isn't exactly a great package for a team looking to rebuild.

If you trade Bynum for anyone, you trade him for Howard. I'm not sold on the idea of trading him for a ball-dominant PG, even if he's arguably the best in the league.

Who knows if Gasol will respond from a terrible Playoff run? Could you imagine how soft our interior would be without Bynum if Pau doesn't bounce back?

Believe me CP3 would be fun to watch and exciting. It would be like show time 2 revisted, but with out a big man protecting the basket, it would be hard to win a ring.

Dwight Howard would destroy the Heat, as would CP3, but you have Howard under the basket, it will make it tough for Wade and Lebron to get easy buckets.

Big picture, I think the Heat will be in the finals again for the next few years, barring injury or another super team in the East.

I don't underrate him.... he is a top 5 point guard..... The only thing I'm pointing out is that we have a top 2 or 3 Center and centers are much harder to find than point guards.

The injury history is a reason to trade Bynum for Howard, but that goes out the window IMO when you are trading for a point guard with a similar injury history.

Also if we are going for a point guard I would want one that is more balanced on both ends of the floor. Paul gets some steals but his on the ball defense is not much better than Fisher's....

Lastly, we have to give up more than Bynum because salaries don't match. So we give up either picks or young players because NO isn't taking Luke or Artest that's for sure......

We saw Gasol with a chip on his shoulder. It's called the 2010 NBA Finals.

If he has ANY type of competitive spirit, and past seasons tell us he does, that means he's going to come back blazing. We went to 3 straight finals, winning two, in the past four seasons since getting Gasol. Kobe won't let him get traded.

I know losing Bynum hurts us hard, which is why I have a hard time trading him for a PG, but it is Chris Paul here. People talk like you need these great bigs to win titles.

Mavs had Dirk, Chandler, Haywood... we had better. HEAT had Bosh, Haslem, Big Z, Dampier... we had better. We arguably have the best big man depth in the league. What loses games for us is athleticism, youth, and PG play. Paul addresses that. It's a tough decision, though. Part of me wouldn't deal Andrew for anything less than Dwight Howard. What scares me is thinking Drew is a franchise talent to build around. You can't build around a player that makes you cringe every time both legs leave the floor.

I think Chicago is positioned better than the Heat. They have more assets to move to get a lot better before the new CBA neuters teams over the cap. They also have a core team that is deeper than the Heat.

The Heat don't have any trade assets and will rely on just the MLE this year and next to get better. After that it's an ever-changing parade of washed up vets looking for a "kling-on championship".

That is the risk I believe we run as well. We saw what happens to a team comprised of 3 mega-stars with crap around them when they run into a real team last year. I don't think that is the model we should be trying to copy in LA either. We need some great players surrounded by good ones who comprise a real team.... not a bunch of marquis names with D-leaguers and way past their prime vets.....
