The Lakers are officially calling Dwight Howard a game-time decision; we won't know for sure if he's playing until around 5 p.m.

yeah I think at this point it is safe to say he is playing tonight.
Every time I begin to ask, "Is he really as great as I think he is?" ...He proves that he is.
Every time I begin to wonder...He proves it...That is why I won't lose hope in him.
You know who I am talking about.

Unless he suffers a setback between now and 6:30pm, all signs point towards Dwight Howard making his debut tonight.

Dwight Asking Lakers Not To Gamble On Defense
Oct 21, 2012 12:01 PM EDT

Dwight Howard is the NBA's single most influential defensive player and he is already asking his new teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers to play a certain way on that end of the floor.

“The biggest thing is we don’t have to gamble,” said Howard. “That’s the one thing I told those guys — don’t gamble. We’re solid on defense, we work hard for 24 seconds on defense and then we’re out.

“That’s when you put everybody else in bad predicaments, when you do gamble. But when we’re solid, we have some great defenders on the wing. We have some great defenders on the post. So there’s no need to gamble. We all just have to trust our instincts and play the right way.”

I love his defensive mentality. He's right -- there's no need to gamble, especially with the personnel we have.

I cant wait to see our first defensive/mental lapse of the season. You know those games where we just collectively dont show up and let scrubs dominate us. Dwight isnt going to have any of that, its good to know hes going to dominate the defensive end 82 games out of the year (if healthy), and im sure hel let his teammates know they need to show up. I feel like Drew was just a big reason for our lackadaisical play sometimes, it probably spread to Pau too. Having Fisher certainly didnt help either. The thing im most excited about this season will be now we have a point guard and a center who dont mess around and come to play every night.

I agree with Howard on gambling when it comes to regular season games. However, there are times where you need to make a play to change the momentum of the game and possibly the series. Oftentimes it's one play that makes a difference in changing momentum from one side to the other.

Translation: Kobe, no more roaming free-safety leaving wide open 3pt shooters.

The Ariza steal against the Nuggets in game 1 in 09 comes to mind, if memory serves correctly.

Now I know why Ariza was shipped out of Orlando. :man10:

I should get an assist for that. It's an intentional pass to oneself, so it's an assist. That way people can't say all I do is shoot.
