I don't think he should play against Detroit. Their an awful basketball team. Although, Drummond is putting together a very nice rookie campaign for ROTY (rooke of the year). I'd rather him sit out and be ready for the game against Brooklyn where we will need his defensive presence.

I dont understand how Drummond can be so pedestrian at uconn(considering his size in college) and so promising in the NBA

I understand he was somewhat unhealthy and young at uconn but he has a future

I used to watch him miss dunks when playing pickup games with students

Good news. Need him with Bynum, stucky, and knight attacking the rim.

He needs to really focus on keeping the ball high and tight to his chest and stop extending his arms and bringing the ball to his waist.

Will Gasol go back to the bench? I hope so.

I would still like to see some sort of tweak to add speed - someone who can finish on a break and penetrate a D to break it down. Even if we have to trade metta for it.

most likely because his back isn't at 100% meaning he can't hold the ball that tightly without putting strain on his muscles

Great to hear. He's not a wuss, at least. I know that injury hurts and the procedure wasn't exactly pleasant, so...

Is there any way they can put something on that shoulder to protect it?

How about he just stick to playing defense, rebounding and putbacks and not trying to post up. This way he can protect himself from getting stripped and further injuring himself

He wasn't even injured on a post up. It was an offensive rebound/put back attempt.

He was actually getting credit from his teammates and fans for coming down so hard on Dwights wrist (was a foul BTW) and hurting Dwight so that the Suns could come back and win.

Blood is in the water. other teams will try the same strategy to knock dwight out of games.

I'm not sure he stays healthy. That has got to be factored in. Sure, if healthy and at least 80% of his former self than fine.

Regardless he is NOT a max player IMO. You don't pay someone $20M for defensive presence alone. You just don't.

Not if he's the Dwight putting up 8 points a game, going 2/10 from the FT line, getting stupid fouls and is injury prone as hell. Who is to say that he doesn't have more injury issues?

The labrum is one thing. But the back? Serious stuff, what if the knees are next?

Before the new CBA Dwight was a max player. Before his injuries he was a max player. 4 years ago he was a max player. You realize traditional centers aren't crucial to championship teams anymore right?

But no, for those reasons and what I've seen of him this year and being completely uncertain about whether he is going to be his former self, I don't think he is. $15-17M/4y is more palatable.

You realize the dude can't create a shot for himself right? You don't give someone a max deal who can't create a shot for them self.

Not a lot. I don't have league pass so I saw nationally televised games, highlights, NBA TV, and playoffs. But we're talking about this Dwight. My contention comes off of 3 main points:

1: Injuries
2: Cannot create his own shot (may relate to #1)
3: I don't think traditional centers as the first option lead to championships in today's NBA

before his injury he could create his own shot. i wouldn't call him tim duncan, or even pau gasol, but he wasn't tyson chandler either.

now his injuries are troublesome, but as revgen said the shoulder is likely related to the back in that he wasn't able to lift the same so his shoulders were weaker.

a healthy dwight howard was one of the 5 best basketball players in the world. he could dominate defensively every night and offensively most nights. he's worth the max because the doctors said he'd make a full recovery. knee injuries take a year and a half to be back to 100%. backs are considered worse. it's not out there (barring setback, or another back injury) to think he'll get back to himself. and a healthy dwight howard is worth a max deal

I don't think he will get hurt so much on post ups because the defense can't foul him in a way that will hurt his shoulder. It's the plays where he's got a free dunk and someone comes from behind and makes sure his arms don't get above his head that is going to hurt him.

When he comes back he needs to just keep the ball above his head so that if he does get fouled, his arms are already up and he won't get a "jolt" in his arm when he gets fouled.

That's one thing Pau is good at doing, he can't jump so he keeps the ball high so he can quickly lay it in.

hell, i wish he'd just do that anyways. even if he's fully healthy
