Look, atbthis point we all know that a deal is possible and the Lakers will bebthe frontrunner. If we have the chance, we'll get Howard. I think the real intestine question is at what point in the season would a deal like this most likely go down? Is Orlando really listening to offers before the season starts? Or are they gonna wait to see if they can't make moves of their own to keep him there (likely to fail of course).

hell, Drew's played more games than Bogut the last three years, 169 to 167. With 8 more minutes per game Bogut averaged 1.5 more boards, 1.7 more points & 0.6 more blocks. Drew also started slow from the injury and picked his numbers up in the 2nd half of the season with the same amount of minutes.

Anyways I knew Jim Buss would still trade Bynum for Howard but I would never have guessed that 3-team idea, I don't about this "agent community" speculation.

ORL will listen to offers but won't accept any until Dwight lets them know that they need to or gives them stronger indications that they'd better. In other words, if ORL isn't playing championship level bball by the deadline, that's when or S&T in off-season.

I'm glad he's willing to trade Bynum for a good deal, but unwilling to trade him just for the hell of it. That's all I would ask of him on this issue.

Odom will regret not signing with that foreign club. Now, he is subject to trade talks again.
If Howard does become a reality, we need to exercise that amnesty provision on coach Brown.

intriguing. bynum to milwaukee, odom and bogut to orlando, howard and hedo to the lakers. i'm guessing milwaukee and orlando both want something more, but how much better can they expect to do in orlando given their circumstances?

one thing if you're orlando: wouldn't you just wait until february to make a deal? i think the most important thing you can get is a high draft pick if you're in their position. if you trade howard to say, nj, right now you run the risk of them sending you picks in the late 20s. if you wait until february and demand an unprotected pick this year, you might get a high lotto.

anyway, if they don't see the draft as the way out of this, the above deal makes some sense.

I know it's a little too crazy, but anyway to take advantage if Milwaukee is involved and offer Artest and others instead of Odom?

dwight for bynum and odom is probably the best package out there for a frontcourt switch.

Actually a LO/Bynum package is way too much....we gotta play hardball and understand that LO and Bynum both have favorable contracts for us and its Dwight that wants to come here....so we threaten to stand pat cause we have the leverage.

Don't get me wrong....I would love to have Dwight here....in fact, I don't think LA can afford to stand pat at all....but we're still in the driver's seat and really don't need to force our hand (or at least make the other guy believe that...haha).

Dwight for Bynum and Odom doesn't make this current team better. If this happened it's dumber than not wanting to trade Bynum for any reason IMO.

Odom's contract is our best trade piece and IF we trade him it should be for a top flight point guard which this team needs a lot more than a swap of centers that also sends out our best trade asset.

I really think Dwight would be a great fit the Lakers. He's a superstar player and he could be the draw as Kobe enters his twilight years. He has the charisma and marketability. These things are all pretty obvious.

I wouldn't mind giving up Bynum and Odom if that's what it takes. Once again, Odom has proven to be an underachiever - this time where it really counted in the playoffs. It kind of shocked me given his high level play and 6th Man of the Year Award for the regular season. But he was just as much of a no-show in the playoffs as Pau Gasol was, and that's saying a lot. The two of them were equally disappointing.

For me, a lot of what Odom represents is Bynum insurance. If you have Bynum you just don't know about his future health so it's important to have another guy to come in if Pau has to move to center. But last year proved that Pau at center simply isn't viable for any length of time. In that case Odom's talent and versatility may not be as important to us as having a true backup Center.

All of this is kind of erased if you are trading Bynum and Odom for Howard. Howard is an iron man and has stayed injury-free, at least thus far. Pau has also had a pretty good history of staying injury free with the exception of the occasional hamstring pull.

Howard and Pau and Kobe going forward would be a remarkable, bankable, and hopefully winning trio.

Question - How does the trade deadline work this year? Is it still in February? Or is it now because of the shortened season? I'm confused about the possible player movement this year.

Related - If the deadline is later in the season, why would Orlando move Howard now instead of then? Is this all just fun and speculation like it was for half the year before the big Carmelo trade?

I whole heartedly agree that Bynum/Odom is more valuable than just Dwight. It's just that, Bynum needs more opportunities to show that he can be a dominant big man, and I'm hoping Mike Brown takes advantage of his size and offensive ability.

Not many centers in the league today are his height and size.

That being said, as Lakerjones has stated, there are the factors with Bynum and Odom. Injuries, inconsistency, and drive.

At this moment, Dwight is hungrier than ever with how Miami was put together. He wants to win. Andrew and Odom have 2 under their belt now and it'll be interesting to see how they shell up some fire to win another.

Another thing is that with Kobe and Pau, the Lakers were looking to use Andrew like Dwight Howard, per se, being the guard dog, the paint enforcer, and take 3rd wheel to the offensive rotation. Now, Andrew is an advantage against all teams, but playing behind Kobe and Pau and a bench that does not even know you exist a bit irritating, especially for a developing big man trying to make his mark on the league. He has the skills, he has the size, just opportunity is not there. Dwight on the other hand, is in the opposite shoes. He's doing EVERYTHING that Lakers need, but has been put in a place where he doesn't have another scoring option and is the tog dog with a very unpolished offensive games. Roles switched, I think both centers would gladly be happy with the role they have.

Underrated Possibility with dWight. Miami is obviously putting together a powerhouse in the east that Dwight understands there is no way any team in the east can catch up to them in time while he's in his prime. Naturally going west gives him the best chance for rings and also not having to face Miami in the playoffs until a finals series

Now pair himself up with a 5 time champion and a 2 time champion on the winningest franchise, which is in Los Angeles and that has to appeal to eery desire

Has anybody thought about this yet? What if Bynum and Odom say that they won't re-sign with the team they get traded to? I know they have team options, which means its up to the team on whether they stay or go, but lets saay they pick up their team options for next seaosn, but then they say oh we're not gonna re-sign with the team after that...would that dissuade Orlando or Milwaukee from making a deal with us? I really hope it doesn't come down to that...i could see Bynum making a fuss about having to play for Milwaukee...same with Odom and Khloe...Orlando woudl be acceptable to both players i think so I kinda hope that Milwaukee doesn't get involved...

and PLEASE, Orlando prefers BOGUT? LOL. That's laughable. 30 teams in the league prefer BYNUM over BOGUT. Bogut is just as injury prone too so it's not like he has that over Bynum either.

What do you guys think of this trade. Considering that Dwight is the main goal of the Lakers, and with all these weird rumors circulating that we are interested in Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Caron Butle (ALL SF's???). I think this can be the Lakers Master Plan....
