:man10:

No. Absolutely no chance. But he can be mentioned with the greatest ever and that would be awesome for him and us.

ya no chance he catches kareem, wilt, or shaq

but the 2nd tier is in reach the hakeem(who didn't become the top 5 all time center he was until his 30s), david robinson, ewing. those guys are definitely in reach.

hakeem was also only about 6'10" so howard and hakeem are very similar. howard just has to develop a post game like hakeem did.

Hakeem is a level above Ewing and Robinson.

yes, but a level below shaq, wilt, and kareem.

if you want to give him his own level thats fine, my point is dwight isn't capable of being on that first tier

mikan is way too high. i understand what he meant to the game, but wilt, shaq, kareem would have destroyed him easily, and i think hakeem, robinson, ewing, malone would do the same

Arash Markazi of ESPN wrote: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar might not only get a statue when the Los Angeles Lakers begin next season, he might also get another opportunity to work with the franchise's starting center.

While answering questions from fans on Twitter, Dwight Howard was asked if he was going to work out with Abdul-Jabbar.

"I am," Howard responded. "When I am released."

Howard was referring to getting clearance from his doctors to return to the court after undergoing back surgery in April. The six-time All-Star hopes to be back some time in October.

Abdul-Jabbar responded to Howard's tweet with a tweet of his own on Monday.

"Lots of news about me and DH - would be great to coach him but as of now still haven't met him," Abdul-Jabbar tweeted. "Laker fans hope for the best always!"

Abdul-Jabbar worked with Andrew Bynum, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last month in the four-team deal that brought Howard to Los Angeles, as a special assistant coach from 2005-09. The two fell out of favor in 2009, when Bynum reportedly told Phil Jackson and the Lakers' coaching staff that he no longer wanted to work with the Hall of Fame center.

Abdul-Jabbar's contract as a special assistant for the Lakers expired in 2011. Shortly afterward, he publicly criticized the team for failing to give him a statue and for asking him to take a pay cut and not awarding him playoff shares as a coach due to his reduced role.

The Lakers announced last week that Abdul-Jabbar would get a statue in front of Staples Center on Nov. 16.

And that "ranking" I saw earlier of the tiers of best Centers: If Hakeem isn't one of your top tier Centers, you're doing it wrong. The dude is clearly one of the best of all time. Hakeem, Kareem, Shaq, and Wilt are the top 4 Centers to ever play the game.

Dwight doesn't have a chance to reach that level. At least not in my mind. If he wins 2 in a row here with Kobe, Nash, and Gasol maybe that changes, but I really doubt it.

Hakeem could be viewed as a PF in terms of his style of play IMO.

Goldenkight, how is Howard passing Kareem as the Lakers' best all-time center? He won 5 rings with us.. Do you see Howard winning close to 5 rings? Kareem is pretty much untouchable in Laker center history, and I just don't see Dwight getting close to that level.

Well, he could win 2 or 3 now, then when the new era rolls in and we get Love and/or Durant, there's another 2 or 3. :man1:

^Great News on KAJ and Dwight meeting! Dwight seems completely humbled by this whole process from being traded to L.A., to the press conference where he kept smiling, and now meeting KAJ! Good for him!

Huge respect to Dwight for working with Kareem.

And LOL the "highly-motivated" part was definitely a shot at Drew, justified or not.

Guess that means he's resigning doesn't it :jam2:

I love his enthusiasm. Even though I'm not sure how much he'll benefit from Kareem, since their games are so different, I'm still excited to see Dwight motivated to work on his game.

I also get the feeling Kareem really felt dissed by Drew...

^ I honestly think their games aren't terribly different. Yes, Kareem was more finesse around the basket and his Sky Hook was unstoppable, but he was no stranger to dunks and he was extremely mobile thanks to his dedication to fitness.

I think they have three major similarities: they both rely(relied) on hook shots, they are both extremely mobile, and they are both dedicated to fitness and their bodies.

Kareem has a lot to teach Dwight. I hope he's a sponge.

"for many years to come". I don't think he just wrote that, especially after this crazy year and a half of speculation everything he says and tweets is probably being scrutinized by his camp. In short: :jam2:

Two things Howard will/should learn from Abdul-Jabbar. Mental preparation and in game reactions. The former in focusing in on the opponent, their strenghts and weaknesses. The latter will be about how a pivotman has to have his head "on a swivel" to recognize angles and lanes on both sides of the ball...the "holes" Abdul-Jabbar commented about regaring Howard's overall game.

The footwork is there. Howard is fleet enough to make plays. Offensively, he is still clunky BUT is able convert a high % of his FG attempts. The MAIN gist for him is to master the CEREBRAL aspect of playing.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.
