I don't know guys the whole not wanting the circus to come back bit and him saying MY TEAM Doesn't need it was a hint I think
“If somebody had their life on the line, and they’ve got their options on who they want to save their life – tell me who you’re going to pick?” Bryant asked. “You’re going to look at the stats first?”

i think we all just need to wait and see instead of going crazy trying to figure out what he's thinking. truth is, anything can happen between now and july 1st. no point in hanging on every word he says.

therealdeal wrote:He talked about how he got frustrated with Kobe early in the season for shooting too much.

He talked about how shot attempts is kind of out of his control and that he needs to focus on contributing with or without shot attempts.

Talked about how he doesn't have any control over the pace really, but that he can't let that change him.

He talked about how he doesn't want to talk about his future and let that affect this season.

He talked about how the expectations are still to get into the playoffs and win a championship.

He said he doesn't want to be remembered as a crybaby who forced himself out of Orlando and tried to bring that franchise down.

Dang.

Frustrated with Kobe, shot attempts not in his control, pace isn't in his control, doesn't want to talk about the future, still worried about his ORL reputation.

I know the summary came out of context and I didn't hear the interview, but does it sound like he does not want to be in LA?

He didn't say anything about staying or not staying. It was impossible to guess what he felt.

And to be fair about the shot attempts, he said he WAS frustrated, but he didn't say he still is.

Exactly, he said he WAS frustrated at times when Kobe was taking a lot of shots. I don't see how he can be frustrated with that now when Kobe is taking around 12-15 shots per game, not 20 some, not 30. Plus, he looked pretty happy to me on the bench during the Detroit game. He jumped up and was all smiles when Clark got that half ending alley oop from Kobe, and he got up and was all smiles and high fives when Kobe got that steal and monster dunk. He seems happy to me as long as we're winning and the team is sharing the ball like they have been.

i can't stand people like D12. he complains that he is misunderstood yet all he does is send mixed signals with the things he says. he complains that he doesn't understand why the drama & focus on what he wants yet he continues to say things that only fuel more drama. This guy is a typical flake that grew up in the southern church
and was babied his entire life by over protective parents and when he discovered he had talent his mental and emotional weakness can't carry the weight of his talent. can't win a title with this guy being the focal point. ever. ever. period. ps his offensive game is pathetic.

The media is ALWAYS going to try and milk whether or not he stays. It is going to remain a question until the offseason, because if he commits he loses A LOT of leverage in his contract negotiations. Pretty much all players do this nowadays unless they're a lifer like Duncan, Kobe, Brady (NFL), etc...

no his money is slotted via the new cba. he just wants to be babied and courted. I am sure he wants to do some stupid phony lebron tour so he can get even more attention. waste of time. no way would i keep this guy because he needs a great pg or wing player to help him win a ring yet he will never accept that if he isn't taking the most shots or the main draw.

yeah, nothing at all positive about that interview. if you're ownership, and he won't express a desire to stay beyond this year, i think you seriously consider dealing him, dwill-style. getting left holding the bag would basically tank next year and perhaps beyond. he doesn't sound happy to be in la from anything i've heard or read.

What is with this ridiculous need for him to commit in the middle of the season?

Trade him? That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Unless Dwight Howard says "I'm not staying" you don't trade him. Plain and simple.

I didn't catch that he's unhappy in la. He won't commit for obvious negotiating reasons, but he'd be a fool to leave 30 mil on the table. Besides, the CBA has strapped other teams, and no contender can trade for him. No team is going to clear out cap space for him a la Dallas, and hope his flaky butt commits to them.

He's pretty much stuck with la as his best option.

WTF how can you be frustrated with shot attempts when you lead the league in free throw attempts the 1st 2 months of the season and you have a ridiculous high turnover rate for a big men. Do you see why you dont get the ball, Dwight? This is so ridiculous, Pau used to do it too when we were getting our [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] kicked in the Boston series when we went up there pointing to shot attempts...fact is despite passing the ball, our defense hasn't improved much and we're arent winning in a convincing manner either. So ridiculous these guys point to shot attempts to easily take the pressure off them because you know the media wants to beat hell out of the Kobe shoots narrative

If Howard wanted to be "THE MAN" he shouldn't have opted out of his contract which sealed any kind of chance of going to the Nets.

there were a ton of things that Dwight said that give zero indication of him staying but the one thing that sticks out is when he was asked how he wants to be revered by basketball fan. his answer? Not to be a cry baby.

There are 2 way to read that:

1) he's going to put up with everything going on this year and just do what he wants next year regardless of how fans feel

2) he almost can't leave LA for "greener" pastures because he'll be looked at a guy who could never man up to a situation.

at times he disgusts me

Meh, Gasol thought he shot too much at times during our glory days. Nash talked about "sticking to the script", so this is nothing new. Kobe has games where he just sort of has fun and shoots a lot. :man10:

He's a shoot first player, and he's adjusted his game to be a pass first player as of late, to accommodate Dwight. That's what the greatest of the great do, and I am sure Dwight will appreciate it if this winning trend continues. He knows Kobe will have likely retired in a year or two, and he'll be the future going forward. I don't see Kobe taking a ton of shots being the biggest thing from making him resign. If there is an issue... it's MDA.

I don't understand, he said that he doesn't want to talk about his future and let that affect this season but that is what exactly effecting us and doing us no good at the moment.

It's about time for Dwight to come out to the press and make a statement announce to the world that he's going to sign a long term-deal at the end of the season with the Lakers, why he wait it so long to reveal this to the public ? Once he commit his future to the Lakers, our team chemistry will become much better with the unknown gone and regain back confident, we will start winning games and make it to the playoffs this season.

Dwight needs to man up and say it damn

He isn't giving up leverage, actually one of the smartest things he done in a while... :man10:

As for the shots.... That I don't get. Add up his turnovers, free throws and actual shots and he's getting just a couple fewer touches than he got in Orlando. That's to be expected when you go from the offensive leader of a team to a team with established players...... And one of them is named Kobe... :man10: If he expected something different he had incorrect expectations.

Where he gets his touches is the difference as is what he can and can't do with them. He's limited offensively and we aren't setting the table like he's used to....... That's what I really think he's getting at here.

I think what bugged Dwight more than anything was seeing Kobe have 25-30 FGA attempts. He's just not used to playing with a guy who dominates the ball that much.

yea i don't get it. i think it was kobe himself who told dwight to not even think about the business side of stuff until the season is over, just to focus on winning basketball games. that's probably, at least in part, why he's answering that way.
