Dwight To Train With Hakeem Again In Offseason

Dwight To Train With Hakeem Again In Offseason

Dwight Howard has sought the training of Hakeem Olajuwon in recent summers and the Los Angeles Lakers' center says he will again work out with the Hall of Famer this offseason.

"This summer I will," Howard posted on Twitter when a follower asked him if he has or will work out with Olajuwon again.

Howard is averaging 16.2 points and 11.9 rebounds this season, but his free throw shooting remains well below 50 percent.

I'm all for it. I think he should work with Shaq, too. That's just me.

Doesn't matter much when you don't have the natural touch around the rim , footwork and post up moves to begin with ..

I'm all for him actually learning something rather than posing for another video to demonstrate how much he's trying to improve. If he's really trying he would improve.

I think it's a good idea.

This. Pessimists can say "why bother?" but I'd rather say "why not?"

No harm can come from him doing it. I'm glad he's doing something like it.

maybe dwight should actually use some of those moves he learned with hakeem in real games

at this point it's really all about his recovery from the back injury. if he can fully recover then we'll see the dwight of 4-5 years ago who dominated with his athleticism

He had his career high in ppg after training with Hakeem so it did help somewhat...but yea, his FT% is just going to be a major issue. What a disappointment too. I was hoping last year's 49.1% was an outlier and that he'd go back to the upper 50s.

Well, I want him to do it so he learns, but if he doesn't try, he almost certainly won't get better. He should watch Rocky IV, go train in Russia with Hakeem, then with Shaq, and then with Bruce Lee's corpse. I think it would be good for him.

The question remains whether we will care about it or not. Houston might also make a play for him I assume.

We have a big man associated with this team that taught our previous center some nice stuff in the post..... Wonder why he isn't good enough to ask for a few pointers?

I don't know if he'd come forward to volunteer again. It's true that Bynum learned from him (more than Bynum would care to admit, in fact), but it seemed like Bynum rebuffed the assistance at some point. Or am I mistaken?

I think that was the story as well.

Howard's post game could use some Kareem in it for sure. Hakeem's game is predicated on jumpers and turnaround jumpers.... two things Howard doesn't do at all. The back to the basket game and positioning of Kareem is what he'd benefit from the most IMO. The "dream shake" and a 12 foot fadeaway is never going to be part of his game..... the hook across the middle with the right footwork is within reach however IMHO....

All he needs to learn is a drop step and free throw.

Can't hurt.

It didn't seem to help much the first time he did it, maybe this time will be different but I doubt it.

I don't want to be negative, but this sort of stuff is pretty pointless if it's for a few hours one day only and Dwight doesn't keep practicing what he learns over and over and then use it in games. He trained with Olajuwon before, but I see no evidence of it, it takes more than a day. If he were to work with him for a few weeks, a few months, a whole offseason, that would be a whole lot better and get me interested.

In any case, it's better to practice, then not to practice.

We're talking about practice here. Not a game. Not a game, but practice.

Pretty much how I see it as well.

Although training with Shaq would be quite intriguing. Doubt either man would be up for that though.

At this point, I don't care who D12 works with as long he improves his skills. Whether that's Ewing, Hakeem, Kareem, or whomever. He can't rely on his athleticism forever.
