Dwight wants Kobe Bryant to "Chill"

“If somebody had their life on the line, and they’ve got their options on who they want to save their life – tell me who you’re going to pick?” Bryant asked. “You’re going to look at the stats first?”

Howard never used the word "chill", but yea, it's still a bad move on his part.

"I think sometimes as a team we got to be able to not really show our frustrations that much. A lot of the guys look at me and Kobe and they feed off us, so we have to do a better job of keeping our frustrations on the inside and just playing through it so our teammates won’t get down on themselves. So, we just got to do a better job at that.

I know [Kobe] was a little frustrated tonight. He wants to win just as bad as all of us do, but we just got to stay together, remember it’s a process, and stay focused."

Edit: Actually, it's hard to take anything from this quote without any context.

That's just his personality. He's been down the "rock the boat" path before and it made everyone hate him. I think he just wants to be the nice guy. That's kind of the problem with all of our guys now that I think about it. Pau, Nash, Howard... they're all nice guys. Kobe's the only real d*** on the team and it's those guys that can sometimes force the issues.

Whatever. It's a process; stay patient; all this crap. I was the process and patient fan two games ago; then I seen the team get progressively worse, Brown starting a bench rotation that was utterly moronic, etc. If Kobe wants to air out his frustrations in public like that, then so be it.

I think Dwight should not waste his time trying to change Kobe Bryant, 17 seasons, he is who he is. When Kobe is frustrated with how the team is playing, he shows it, he expects more, he expects to win, he expects everyone to play as hard as him. Dwight said he wanted Kobe to be tough on him, he said he wanted to not laugh and smile so much on the court, well then let Kobe be tough on you, and get tougher yourself. It's not a time to be patient, it's a time to turn this around right now. I don't see Kobe getting frustrated as them not 'staying together', he's still reduced his shots per game to 16, he's playing as well as I've seen in a long time, and maybe as efficiently as he's ever played (27 PPG on 16 or so shots, 56% shooting, 43% on 3's, 91% on free throws). Dwight has to learn, or really he should have known, that's just Kobe.

He shouldn't chill when the Lakers are actually playing worse than their record indicates. Dwight, this isn't Disneyland. We have expectations to be met and right now although its early but we have no flow no sync no chemistry no X's and O's.

There's no drama, man. :man10:

Dwight is just trying to be a mediator. He's just trying to calm people down. The two of them aren't arguing or anything like that.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. He never told Kobe to chill... I think he's more referring to he and Kobe verbally going after the refs.

talk about spinning a title out of context.

So.... Dwight was afraid of following in Shaq's footsteps?..... :man10: he just jumped in line right behind the big fella.....

It's one thing to think that but it's completely another 5 games into a season on a team with an all time great that is used to winning and just put up a record not seen in decades and say that out loud.....

Maybe there was something to the rumblings in Orlando that it wasn't all in the front office.... If he want's to "lead" he should be madder than Kobe.....

I don't see the drama. That's his politically correct opinion. Of course, that's not how Kobe operates at all. He's more of a "do something and do it now" type of guy. :man1:

Granted, when this team started losing, who didn't see this coming from a mile away? I'm just shocked that, it was Dwight and not Kobe who had the first word.

However, what I didn't see coming a from a mile away was this team starting 1-4.
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

by the way. for those acting like what dwight said was so horrible, pau has said much much worse throughout his tenure here. all of those

"we aren't getting enough shots *wink**wink*" were much worse than this.

the timing is the issue for me, not the actual words

Timing?.... hell yeah.... 5 games into a new situation..... Your example of Pau wanting more shots had to do with scheme as much as Kobe.... those always seemed aimed at the previous center in the first place.

After the way Howard exited Orlando it would seem that he should assist Kobe in being sullen and angry at the situation..... rather than flippant....

The comment was the comment.... when it's to the press in a situation like we have it isn't constructive.... lets just leave it at that....

Dwight needs to start taking this a little more seriously. The Lakers are 1-4 and his nonchalant attitude about it is bothering me a little bit.
