Earl Clark told me he wants to come back to Lakers even if they can only offer less money, fewer years compared to other possible teams

Well that's good to know, I'd gladly take him back for cheap, couple years. I think under a real coach he could improve.

him and hill off the bench is solid i think. still believe he needs to develop more. still a young inexperienced player but he has talent. we cant be picky and i think as a backup SF/PF it could be worse. hes gotta come back with some new moves, better outside / midrange shooting

He needs to lock himself in the gym this off-season and do the old Kobe routine. Don't leave until you've made at least 500 shots.

he disappeared in play offs...but considering this year is basicly first year where he got big minutes...
the bright side is that we can resign him for much less than two months ago...

clark's real value lies somewhere near the middle of where he was playing fantastic, and his play late in the season and in the playoffs...closer to the bottom. not what we thought he was.

i'll be surprised if someone offers clark more than the lakers will. if so, their funeral. I really like him and hope he stays, but you can't be giving him a full MLE offer, especially if, like the cavs, you're not capped out. that's a waste of space, imo. a capped out team reaching for him makes more sense.

i'd offer 3 years, 9 million. enough to scare off teams with the mini mle, but not so much as to kill your own flexibility.

I can't imagine Clark going to play for Brown who never played him
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

he'll stay a laker. he said he'll take less money to play. he wants to be a laker no matter what. not worried about him leaving or us trading him. he played too well and has so much potential for us at the 3 or 4 for us to let him go.

As bad as D'Antoni is, he knew how to get more out of his role players than Brown ever did. Meeks, Blake, Clark, and Jamison actually started producing when he took over. Unfortunately, his system just didn't work with our core players which led to friction in the locker room and eventually Kobe taking over.

Brown was the exact opposite. He relied so heavily on our core and treated the role players like crap.

If D'Antoni is the coach next season, I hope he and the core players come to an "understanding" about the team's identity.

The one piece of upside to the Cavs possibly overpaying Earl is that he seems really loyal to us & I'm sure if Mitch said we need a TPE to have a chance at filling the void, Earl would ask that of the team signing him. A 5M or so TPE is a decent asset with so many teams trying to create space. I'd much rather keep Clark for around 3 years 9M.

Lakers are interested in bringing Earl Clark back, but we'll have to see how the free-agent market goes for him.

Bring the kid back. Has potential, works hard on his game, good attitude.

Oh yes, the length factor too. :man9:

Got off the phone from Earl Clark's agent Kevin Bradbury. He talked with "two or three teams" including Lakers about interest in Clark

Mark Medina ‏@MarkG_Medina 11m
Bradbury said Clark hasn't mapped out whether he's looking for multi-year deal or one-year deal. Depends on how serious interest is

Earl Clark heard from the @Lakers to open free agency. But he will visit the @Cavs on Tuesday, I am told.

Mark Medina
The Lakers also expressed interest in resigning surprise reserve Earl Clark shortly after the free agency period began at 9 p.m. PST on Sunday night, a conversation Clark’s agent said “went well” and that they plan to resume talks on Monday. Still, the Lakers’ interest in Clark will hinge on what he attracts in the open market.

My guess is they'll tell him to go see what kind of offers he can get and then determine whether to offer a comparable offer or not, depending on how much a team like the Cavs are willing to overpay.

But if he doesn't, I hope we target Elton Brand RIGHT away.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' interest in Earl Clark is real. They have liked him for quite awhile. They'll meet with Clark at some point.

I want him back. He's got some raw potential. If he can develop a jump-shot and become more fundamentally sound on defense, he can be so valuable...
