Rooscooter wrote:Yup..... unfortunately we are "star struck" in the front office. Guys like Clark (or at least like he's been for the last 10 games) are actually as important as the stars in balancing a team. For every Kareem there was a Rambis and for every Worthy there was a Green and for every Shaq there was a Samaki..... well that last one aside.. :man10: you see what I'm getting at... The balance between having a deep and balanced team and a bunch of All Stars is key IMO. We've experience what having too many alpha's is like.... it would be nice to take the SA approach and build some REAL depth behind 2 or 3 great players. The roles would be much easier to define.

Clark will be a situational signing as you noted. If Howard bolts or forces his way out it will be "Katie bar the Door" IMO..... Pau will be shortly behind because it will be next to impossible to rebuild without using his contract to get some value back if Howard leaves. A guy like Clark would be let go unless he shows some real promise in the next few months.

I think bringing Clark back will end up happening, it just depends on the others how much he gets. If Dwight leaves, he gets a lot because Gasol is also out the door and with Howard gone we can afford to give him market value (probably 4-5 million). If Howard stays, he gets less than that. Probably not a ton less, probably the 3-4 range, but certainly less.

I almost think it's not beneficial for other teams to "gameplan" against Clark. With so many other problems (Kobe, Dwight, Nash), you do not want to overthink because if you try to account for everyone, you'll get hurt in other areas.
It gets more difficult to know how to play somebody when they are not the focal point, and do not have specific plays run for them. Clark can get his points spotting up, or crashing the boards for rebounds and putbacks. I think the best way to play Clark is to just let him shoot the open 3 pointers and the long mid-range jump shots. Until he completely shows you that he's hitting those shots at a consistent rate, live or die by those because it's the lesser of evils.

I want the Lakers to reign this guy and Dwight Howard.

I am having anew found respect for how the Lakers have been playing. This is when it's enjoyable to watch basketball, when it's played selflessly, and the Lakers are playing just brilliantly right now.

I am amazed by this guys easy flow to the game. He really has a lot of upside. Everytime I watch him I am reminded of what I fealt watching Ariza when he first got here. I think he is better overall and already has a pretty nice stroke. He is definately becoming one of my favorite Lakers.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Amazing too how both Potato and Dan wouldn't give him a genuine chance to see what he could do. Dan lucked into it by circumstance.

Clark is a better shooter, better rebounder, better shotblocker, and better 1 vs 1 player than Ariza. Ariza's strength was team defense and his explosive speed. Clark is pretty fast too, but not Ariza fast.

Ariza also had a nasty streak about him that I liked. That kind of persona works well in the playoffs.

Clark is cool as a cucumber, which isn't a bad thing, you definitely don't want a player who loses his cool under pressure, but I prefer hotheads like Ariza who can get hot when the time is right.

Not a great game for Clark, another example of role players being better at home, he's gotta learn to be reliable at home and on the road if we are going to rely on him going forward. Also, Clark 1-4, MWP 6-17, come on that's ridiculous.

This was probably his worst game as a starter. I'm not too worried; he'll bounce back...

This. I cant believe that he didnt show ANY of this in practice.

Reeks of poor coaching, but I guess I shouldnt be shocked.

Beasely is a scorer, and he caught fire. It doesn't help he had no help defense in the paint either.

What's Earl's contract status?

It's imperative that we retain this guy...

He is earning $1.2 million. Yes, you heard that right. And his contract is an expiring.

Well hopefully Lakers FO is willing to pay the extra buck to keep this guy here. Earl seems like a humble guy though. Hopefully he'll stay for a reasonable amount of money.

He'll get the Jordan Hill contract this summer: about 3.5 million for two years, second year is a team option.

He's showing a lot of promise and I'm sure he loves it here, but we need more before we just throw big money at him. (see Walton, etc.)

I agree that we need to watch him for the rest of the season before making a decision, but he seems vaguely familiar to other impact players we have let walk in lieu of aging stars ie, Barnes, Ariza

I'm not claiming to have a crystal ball, but there is some value to QUALITY role players who (and this is important) are OK being role players.

Ariza left on his own because he was trying to squeeze too much cash from the Lakers. He left just in time too because he hasn't been a quality player since the 2009 playoffs. :man10:

Barnes walked because he failed us twice in the playoffs and we weren't eager to bring him back. Not to mention he never got along with Brown and every indication was that Ebanks would finally get his shot to emerge (and take it). Ebanks has/had more talent than Barnes, but he doesn't have half the heart.

Clark isn't going to walk without the Lakers saying SOMETHING. I'd compare his situation more to Shannon Brown. A quality guy who left for a bigger opportunity. The thing is, he's probably going to GET that opportunity here.

What would you guys say is a fair contract? I think getting around what Hill received is fair ($7mill/2yr deal), this is also his first really good season in the NBA so that should be accounted for.

Gasol will get dumped, we will resign clark. He will probably stay as starter unless hills takes it from him, either way he will see a lot of playing time.

great game. without that 0.4 oop, we lose. sure he missed 2 free throws, but i'll let that slide. guy doesn't have THAT much experience in clutch time..and if nash can miss 2 in a row, so can clark.
