Elden anyone?

Elden anyone?

Elden Campbell is a free agent, has many ties still here in Los Angeles, and will have to settle for no more than the LLE. What do you all think about having Elden as a backup C/PF behind Shaq and PJ/Horry/Cook/Howard/whoever...

even though ELDEN is LAZY he would make for an excellent reserve at center and Powerforward for us. We won't demand too much out of this time around. He can just sit and keep SHAQ's seat warm for about 35 minutes. HE can come in to play for about 15 minutes of ball maybe more depending on the circumstances. I would get ELDEN if we fail to get PJ BROWN. We don't need both because we need to give playing time to COOK. I don't think we can get CAMPBELL will the LLE. There are plenty of teams out there who are in need of a big man and will off their MLE.

With the way salary caps are structured these days and the financial situations of most teams being considered, I can't think of anyone that would take Elden at his age for the MLE. But I may be wrong. If we do get PJ, then we might wanna focus on a Scott Williams type backup for the vet. min, someone to stick in the paint. We haven't had one of those since Sean Rooks.

yea... but we are asking ELDEN to come off the bench to relief SHAQ not start with him...
I recall in SHAQs absence ELDEN average 16 points 8 rebs... not bad for a sub. He does have a jumper just outside the painted area.

Eldon as a sub

Postby Calistar on Sat Jun 28, 2003 11:11 am

Eldon would make a good back-up to Shaq; however, Scptt Wiliiams would be a nicer fit if would could get him for the LLE. If not Eldon would fit nicely because he does have a decent low post game.

HECK NO!!! I can't stand Elden "I'm a Retard" Campbell! Although he stepped up some in Shaq's absense, he's still soft and often played like his hands were buttered with margarine!

Elden would be a great pick up. Call me crazy, but I'm going to defend him. The old Laker system was not geared for him, but this one is. He certainly can defend the Webber's & Duncan's of the league, he could be a starter. Phil would motivate his [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.]! Small/bad hands
Lazy attitude
Lack of desire
No heart
Unpredictable output

HELL NO! Elden should not be back on the Lakers. If you want to pick up a backup center that's a former Laker - go grab Sean Rooks. Though he's no Alonzo Mourning, he does have a brain in his head and the intelligence to give everything he's got every night.

Just like Madsen, Rooks tries hard but his heat and amazing play doesn't equal Elden's lazyiest performances...there is something we have gotten out of touch with lately during our free agent choices...RAW FREAKIN' NATURAL TALENT...and Elden at least has that...Rooks does not...

That's a little over the top for someone you don't no personally.

Anyway, Elden would probably do okay as a back up to Shaq. However, I think with the lack of servicable bigmen in the league right now, someone will offer more than what the Lakers are willing to pay him to be Shaq's back up. Even though he's 35 yrs. of age some team will over pay.
Mind over Matter-We don't mind cause you don't matter.

I'd rather have someone with amrginal talent that uses it to the best fo their ability rather than someone with above average talent that uses it sparingly.

Snakell, I said "if you want to pick up a former Laker", I never said he was my first choice.

Elden may have raw talent, but he has no idea how to tap into it and I'm still not sure if he cares to.

Elden would serve as an ok backup.

Give him some credit, he almost single handedly put the Phoenix Suns out of the playoffs in 1993. Charles Barkley could not guard him during that series.

I loved that 1993 team. Since wins from them was not that common, every win they did get felt great from a fan standpoint.

It felt great taking the first 2 games in Phoenix during that 5 game series.

Too bad we couldn't pull atleast one game at home.

I will always remember that team.
AC Green also was intrumental in that series.

yea.. it was the a year prior to the LAKE SHOW.
hey, that was Peelers first year wasn't it?...
1993 season was a great run.... I couldn't believe we couldn't get that elusive 3rd win. If we would have won our future maybe have unfolded differently. I remember when KEMP was at his peak.. ELDEN was would show up during those games. ELDEN was the only one that matched up well with KEMP.
Didn't we have SAM BOWIE or was it EDWARDS?... hehehe.. those were memories when wins was hard to come by....

Believe it or not, but I even like Vlade Divac during those days. He had a knack at irritating both his fans and our opponent's fans.

The two funny things Vlade does is try to flop whenever he plays defense, the refs don't even respect him any more. And when a call doesn't go his way he will look dumb founded and throw his hands on his head and run down court. Anyone remember Shaq's song that he sang on the bus to the cheers beat that was on his phone, it was the last championship video, it was pretty funny-"Winning a championship takes everything you got
Sacramento, they thought it was their year
But I'm telling you it's not.

Vlade said if we don't have home-court advantage we won't win
Vlade, are you stupid? I tell you time again
You need to go where they don't know your name
And the Lakers, we don't play the game
You said that we wouldn't win at your place
Guess what, Kobe dunked it in your face
You need to go where people don't know your name"
