CL Exit Interview Day 3: Dwight

CL Exit Interview Day 3: Dwight

What would you say to Dwight? What would you ask him?

I think I'd ask him about his confidence in the team as currently constructed. I'd surely want input about the makeup of the roster (and coaching staff).

- How do you think you've grown this season?
- Defensively we struggled early and were successful very late, what do you attribute to this?
- Do you think D'Antoni is a coach you could play under moving forward?
- What does this team need to be competitive next season?
- How do you plan on growing your game this summer?

forget what's said about you, how do you want to think of yourself 10 years from now? as someone who ran from adversity or as someone who triumphed in the face of adversity? how do you accomplish the latter?

As much as you are a max-deal player, what are your thoughts about taking less money so that the Lakers can bring in another high level player to pair with you?

So.... Dwight. I know you and your agent don't want to discuss your contract status and I won't push that at this point.

Your performance this season was what we expected given your injury and conditioning. However, we were very disappointed in several pubic displays of non-unity with the notable example being the incident of displaying the shot charts from one particular game to both your teammates and the media. In the long history of this franchise we have had similar issues but a few times in the public arena and each time we have dealt with them quickly. This is your warning. We need leadership from you and mentoring of the younger players. Study the careers of the greats at your position and note common personality traits rather than scoring and rebounding averages.

Moving forward, if you do decide to re-sign will you be willing to endure the re-building process? It may take 2 or 3 years to again have the pieces around you to compete viably for a NBA Championship and we will need buy-in if/when you want to begin discussion about a long term relationship with the Lakers. In the past there have been incidents with your former coaches and organization that give us some pause. Can you elaborate on the issues that led to those public outbursts that alienated you from your previous teammates and organization?

At this time that is it.... we look forward to discussing the opportunity of our potential future long term relationship in the near future. Get healthy and we'll be in touch.

^ while I realize this thread is about what we would say there is no way a GM trying to resign Dwight talks to him like that, he'll be treated with kid gloves for all his transgressions. It was a rough season for everyone to deal with anyways.

+ Howard at 20 M
+ Kobe at 12 to 15 M
+ our miniMLE this year (2,5 M)
+ Clark (most likely more than one year deal)
